I came back to my blog to get my "coming out post" to post it today on my social media since it's National Coming Out day. Seeing my blog brought back so many great memories, I used to love blogging and sharing my daily life with you all. I didn't have a big following, but I did enjoy interacting with the few who did read my blog.

I'm thinking about getting back into blogging, maybe not daily but on a weekly basis... I'm currently not doing anything creative these days, I've paused my podcasting since Oct 22 (wow it's been a year already), and that too I really want to get back into. Time just seems to be flying by and life continues to move along at lightning speed.

One of my favorite things about my blog was going back and looking at things and events that had happened over the years. As I get older my memory isn't as sharp and I forget the little things. Blogging was like an online diary for me, and I really think I need that back in my life.

Don't know how much I'll blog but will see how it goes.
Geekyfanboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06277495132632152696noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4013521694510942639.post-29166308824123824842021-02-15T00:00:00.007-08:002021-02-17T20:44:52.792-08:00MASH 4077 Podcast Episode 245

SHOW NOTES

KENNY MITTLEIDER FROM KNIGHTS OF THE GUILD, ALIEN NATION: THE NEWCOMERS PODCAST & THE GEEK ROUNDTABLE PODCAST AND SIMON MEDDINGS FROM WAFFLE ON PODCAST ALONG WITH SPEICAL GUEST HOST TYNAMARIA DISCUSS ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL AND LONGEST RUNNING TELEVISION SERIES IN HISTORY.. I had been hearing things around the office and was interested... my friend Tony was pretty knowledgeable on crypto so we would talk at lunches and I had a few extra dollars lying around that I was okay with if I lost so I invested in three crypto currency; Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin. Over the years I watched all three of these fall to the point were my investment was a third of what I put into it. I wasn't worried as Tony always said this was the long haul investment.

The past few months my three cryptos started to rise and this past week they got to the point that my investment has now all most tripled my money. So I pulled out my initial investment and am now just watching my rewards earn additional money with no worries if anything goes south.

Of course now I wish I had invested much more then I did but that's the thing with stocks/crypto you never know what's going to happen and I wasn't willing to lose to much. But I'm happy to say that my first endeavor into crypto/stocks risks paid off.
Geekyfanboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06277495132632152696noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4013521694510942639.post-63810671113349819862021-02-10T09:00:00.017-08:002021-02-17T20:37:27.765-08:00The Geek Roundtable Podcast Episode 37 - Favorite Superheroes
<strong style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">We're back with Episode 37 of The Geek Roundtable
<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">
<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">For this episode host Kenny Mittleider along with guest hosts Jenni, Joe, Tony, Tom and Kevin discuss their favorite superhero.
<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">

<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">Listen on Itunes HERE
<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">

<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">Listen or get a Direct Download
<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">http://Thegeekroundtable.com
<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">

<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">Host of The Geek Roundtable:
<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;">
<p style="font-family: "Lucida Grande", arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 0.1em; padding: 0px;"> Kenny Mittleider is a Post Production Supervisor for TV and a seasoned veteran when it comes to podcasting. It was a crazy ride but in the end we created 8 fantastic and fun episodes that I hope you all check them out.

I was suppose to start back up on Jay Leno's Garage S6 but because of Covid and California lock down my start date has been postponed until early March (hopefully). So that means I have an entire month off and I can't tell you how excited I am to have this time off. Of course I won't be able to go anywhere which is a bummer but I plan to work on podcasts, continuing with my MASH 4077 Podcast and The Geek Roundtable Podcast. But I'm also reviving an older podcast called Confessions of a Fanboy (Fangirl, Fanperson), which I'm currently looking for guests. I also may do some special episodes for my Alien Nation The Newcomers Podcast, Knights of the Guild podcast and My Gimpy Life podcast.

Besides podcasting there will come a time with comic cons are back and I want to be ready with new cosplays. So I'll continue to work on my Barley (from Onward) and Mr. Tumnus (Chronicle of Narnia) and repair/fix anything from my Hobbit and Twi-lik Jedi cosplay.

So it's going to be a busy month for me but between cospalying and podcasting I'll fine time to workout, watch TV and relax of course.
Geekyfanboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06277495132632152696noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4013521694510942639.post-30776666130585270412021-01-18T20:47:00.001-08:002021-01-18T20:48:25.425-08:00My Podcasts

I'm currently going through all my podcasts and creating an archive of every podcast I have hosted, edited, co-hosted, guest hosted or did a segment for. It's going to take time to gather all that info and I don't know what I'm going to do when I have it all but preliminary numbers are pretty crazy...

Here's what I have gathered so far. These number are AS OF the end of 2020.

The MASH 4077 Podcast - 243 Episodes

Alien Nation The Newcomers Podcast - 36 Episodes

We Are Nerdstrong Podcast - 47 Episodes

Confessions of a Fanboy Podcast - 12 Episodes

My Gimpy Life Podcast - 19 Episodes

Knights of the Guild Podcast - 132 Episodes

The Geek Roundtable Podcast - 37 Episodes

That's a total of 526 podcast episodes

Then there are the 71 Ready Room podcasts that I did for the Treks in Sci-fi Podcast and another 10 or so guest podcasts I have done over the years.

I have roughly created, produced, edited, hosted/co-hosted over 600+ podcast episodes since starting in Jan of 2008. And what is great is I'm far from finishing. As current podcasts come to an end I have many more ideas for more podcasts so I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

If you're interested in listening to any of the above or getting more info about the podcast please check out my website GeekyfanboyProductions.com
Geekyfanboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06277495132632152696noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4013521694510942639.post-30774451200457490152021-01-17T12:08:00.000-08:002021-01-17T12:08:27.136-08:00Unknowingly Affecting Lives

I got an email this morning from a listener of my MASH 4077 Podcast. He's been listening for a few years and loves it, he was emailing me to say "Thank you". It's always nice to get emails from listeners but this one hit me very hard, the reason he sent the email now is because he is dying from brain cancer and he's only 27, he's been fighting the good fight the past six years but this past year has not been good and he doesn't know how much longer he has. He wanted us (my co-host and I) to know how much he appreciated the podcast and how it always relaxed him and made him feel a lot better. He hopes he can fight long enough to hear our final episodes. When I read this I was in tears and blogging about it now brings me to tears... I have no words.

I have loved watching reactors on You Tube and listening to podcasts as they have brought me so much joy and entertainment over the years but I never really considered that people felt the same about me and my podcasts... until now.

I love creating podcasts, I've been doing it for over 14 years and plan to continue for as long as I can. To know that people look forward to new episodes, find them entertaining and find joy in them is amazingly wonderful and makes all the hard work and costs worth it.
Geekyfanboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06277495132632152696noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4013521694510942639.post-43403637309198164832021-01-15T11:04:00.001-08:002021-01-17T11:07:22.856-08:00MASH 4077 Podcast Episode 243

I was so in love with that movie that my dad would buy me as many of the 3 3/4 Star Wars action figures as he could and I loved them all (and still have them). Over the years I went from playing with the action figures to collecting them and keeping them mint in package. When Playmates came out with their Star Trek action figures my collection and passion for collecting grew in leaps and bounds. I would spend entire days driving from Target, to KB Toys, to Toys R Us all through out southern California look for items. I always enjoyed my Toy Hunts.

In May of 2016 I wanted to share my collection with fans of action figures and TV/Movie memorabilia so I started an Instagram account and would post one item per day. I tried to give a bit of information about the item or the character per post. I've been doing now for four years and I just reached 200+ followers. It's been slow going but I've enjoyed very post. It's fun to look back at posts and it's a way of keeping track of my toy collection.

If you're interested in checking out my toy collection and following along click HERE. had been planning for several years, I also had planned to go to New Zealand as a birthday present to myself. I miss seeing my family and friends (yes we have Zoom) but it's not the same. I miss hanging out, eating out, shopping, going to the movies and amusement parks. But with all that said, I am still very fortunate and thankful because I have had steady work for the entirety of 2020 (which for my line of work is amazing). I was able to continue my job (Post Production Supervisor) from the safety of my home. Thank you Jay Leno's Garage S5, Monster Garage S1, Growing Belushi S1 and now back to Jay Leno's Garage S6.

And speaking of my home I moved into my amazing townhouse/apartment the week that the official quarantine took effect here in Los Angeles back in March. My new place is in a more rural area on a hillside surrounded by beautiful lush trees and greenery.

As for my health and fitness... my fitness journey continues, yes we lost Nerdstrong but the five years of working out there instilled a love of fitness that continued even in quarantine. I still work out five to six days a week and since I live in this beautiful rural area I took up walking a half hour to 45 minutes everyday. All of this along with changing my eating habits have lead to a leaner, more muscular and healthier me. My journey is far from over but I'm moving in the right direction.

So 2020 is behind us and we now start 2021, I know things won't go back to "normal" but with the new vaccine and new leader in the White House... Let's hope 2021 is the year for recovery.

Geekyfanboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06277495132632152696noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4013521694510942639.post-31274699334873465252021-01-01T11:08:00.004-08:002021-01-01T11:08:39.033-08:00I'm Back... Again!!!
First of all let me say that I'm back (yeah I know I've said that a few times these past five years), I haven't really blogged much since 2016. I've tried several times to get back into it but being a daily blogger it always felt overwhelming as I'd try to back blog months stuff and of course wasn't able to. There have been lots of highs and lows the past five years and I may go back and highlight a few of times but starting today I've decided to starting blogging on a more regular bases, it's won't be daily and I may not even post an entire week but I missing blogging. For me blogging was a way for me to get my thoughts down on paper (in a way), yes friends and family could keep up on my life, which is always great, but blogging was like a diary. As I get older my memory fails me more often then not and this blog reminds me of all the amazing (and some not so amazing) times I've had over the years. So starting today January 1st 2021 My Life As A Geek will resume. I want you all who take a moment of your busy lives to read about my geeky life. Just know I may not say it all the time but I appreciate each and everyone one of you.
Geekyfanboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06277495132632152696noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4013521694510942639.post-89513479786144564502021-01-01T00:00:00.003-08:002021-01-02T20:18:52.230-08:00MASH 4077 Podcast Episode 242

Kenny Mittleider from Knights of the Guild, Alien Nation: The Newcomers Podcast & The Geek Roundtable Podcast and Simon Meddings from Waffle On Podcast discuss one of the most successful and longest running television series in history.. Today I got a message on Facebook about a memory from one year ago, it was one of my many Nerdstrong pictures and I had a sudden overwhelming pain in my heart, like true physical pain, just writing out this blog it's bringing that pain back.

For those who don't know Nerdstrong had to shut down because of the current world crisis. Which would be fine but the timing couldn't have been worse. Nerdstrong's lease was up in April and Coach Andrew (the owner) had found a new location, in the same industrial area just a smaller unit and we were planing to move and then this virus hit and everything changed.

At the beginning of April Andrew had a Zoom meeting with gym members and announced that the gym would be closing permanently. With an uncertain future, no guaranteed income and swarmy building owners Nerdstrong could be no more. I kind of knew this was coming but hearing it out loud was difficult. I think I was in a kind of a shock. I remember not having much of a reaction, until Patty started to tear up and then the waterworks started and I had to turn away from my camera. Afterwards I kind of pulled away from folks, a few Nerdstrong folks messaged me to make sure I was okay but I haven't really talked about it much to anyone and then today when that picture popped up on Facebook and I saw what was, and will probably never be again my heart broke and everything kind of hit me all at once. This idea of not having Nerdstrong Gym when all this craziness is over is heartbreaking. This gym and community has been such a huge part of my life the past 5 + years and I really don't know what I will do without it once we go back to "normal".
Twitch channel with daily workouts, there are also Zoom classes you can
join in on. Unfortunately none of this has really clicked for me
and I've been mostly absent from the new virtual gym. Don't worry though I'm still working out, that's one of many great things Nerdstrong has instilled in me, my love of fitness. And our community continues to grow as we get new online members from all over the world.

Who knows what the future holds for Nerdstrong Gym but I do know that I am very thankful to Andrew, the coaching staff and the entire community for their continued support of my crazy fitness journey. Nerdstrong Gym will always be a part of me.. literally I have their logo tattooed on me. :)
I got a call from Jeff (Townhouse owner) and he informed me that he'd be happy to rent to me. I was so excited as I really wanted this place, the more I looked at pictures and the location it was just perfect for me. I was pretty confident that I'd get the place but I also knew that alot of people have checked it out the past week or so since it's been listed so it was nice to get the phone call this morning. It's crazy that I found something so perfect so quickly. This was only my third place that I looked at. I am meeting up with Jeff later tonight after work to give him my security deposit. And then he'll prepare a lease. I will probably move in March 15th, that way I can overlap this place with my old place and not have to rush to move. I'll keep you guys posted. After last weekend and only looking at two places I really wanted to ramp up on my apartment searching so I did loads of prep work during the week. I scoured the internet and found a handful of places that I wanted to see this weekend. There was one in particular that sounded perfect and I wanted to see it first thing. After playing text tag with the building contact I was able to set up a viewing at 11am today.

Once again my buddy Brian came with me to lend his eyes and thoughts on the place. This was a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom townhouse. I love two story townhouses (I hope to actually buy one, one of these days). It was large and had nice looking wood plank floors. The best part about this place is that it had a two car garage, which is impossible to find for an apartment and near impossible to find for a townhouse. Only downside (if you can call it that) is it's a bit further north then I was looking in an area north of Burbank off the 210 called Tujunga (Sunland-Tujunga).

So we made our way over there and honestly it's only a 30 minute drive from my current place to this place. As we got off the free way I notice that this city starts at the foot of some hills and moves up it. I liked the surrounding mountains (very green this time of year). The city itself is a bit lived in which I don't mind, I lived in worse as long as my immediate area is nice I can live with this. As we drove we started to go further up the hill and into a more rural area. We made it to the townhouse and I really liked the surrounding area. In fact a few blocks from this place we came across this Hobbit House, it's pretty fantastic.

Anyways we got to the townhouse and the maintenance guy let me into the apartment and I wanted in and knew this was the place. The kitchen was small but workable, it had a nice size dining area and the living room was large. There is a "harry potter" closet under the door that would perfectly for my cosplay and the half bath was exactly what I expected. We walked upstairs and the first thing you see if the full bath, it has a double sink and a seperate area with the toilet and tub/shower. The master bedroom is the larger of the rooms and there is this cute little patio just off to the side. The second bedroom is smaller then the master but by no means a small room. It would be perfect for my toy collection. Brian and I went through the house again, checking water pressure and opening doors and closets (which both rooms had nice large closets). He then showed up the garage and it's exactly what I need, not only can I store my extra collection in there I can park my car in there as well. He then showed up the laundry room, it's one washer and one dryer (for seven units), not great but doable.

I could tell Brian was excited for the place as well, we looked at each other and said "it's perfect". I grabbed and application and said I would call the building person to figure out how I was going to get it to him. Brian and I then went exploring around the area and found a cute breakfast place to get some food. While eating I filled out the app and contacted the building guy (come to find out he build these units). He said I could leave the form with the maintenance guy so after breakfast Brian and I went back up to drop off the money (for the credit check) and app but the guy wasn't there. I called him and he said he wasn't sure when he'd be coming home so I contacted the building owner and who said he's be showing the place to another person at 4pm if I wanted to come by and drop off the money and app. So Brian and I drove home to watch Picard episode 6 (post to come). At 3:30 we headed back up and waited. I saw the couple who was going to look at the place pull up behind me, I started to get nervous as this was a couple, I didn't know if the guy would want a couple or was it better that I was single.

Anyways I let him show the couple in and as they walked around I went up to him and give him money and application. We chatted for a few minutes (I tried to turn on the charm, which I am horrible at). He asked me a few questions, this is where I found out he built these units and that the lady who lived in the place before was there for 11 years before her kids moved out and she wanted a smaller place. He told me that I sounded like a perfect tenant and that he's let me know on Monday once he check my credit. I thanked him and went on my way. Now I have wait and by the time we were done I wasn't in the mood to look at anything else. I'm kind of putting all my eggs in this one basket. I mean this place it perfect and I'll be comparing everything I see to this one.

Only a few things that I would say aren't ideal (but not deal breakers). It's the front unit, but luckily it's not on a main street. Across the street is an elementary school, so depending on when I leave for work there might be lots of parents dropping off kids. When I'm off work how will the noise be during school hours. One washer and dryer and it's a little further out then most of my friends and the gym. But again none of these are deal breakers. I love the more rural area, the place is big and has a huge amount of stroage (including a garage). And best part of all of this is that it's right under my budget of $2000 a month coming in at $1995.00

I'll keep you guys posted if I get the place or not.
If you know me you know I love Harry Potter, it's one of my four true geek loves. So when I heard they were releasing an audio book for The Tales of Beedle the Bard I was beyond excited. I love the Harry Potter audio book series. I use to listen to those every year during my long commutes. Those audio books were done by the very talented Jim Dale (US) and Stephen Fry (UK), yep I have all the book by both of them, though Dale is my favorite of the two. For this new audiobook they actually got some of the Harry Potter cast members to read the stories. Warwick Davis (Professor Filius Flitwick and Griphook) , Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger in the original West End and Broadway runs of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and Jude Law (Young Albus Dumbledore).

If you don't know what The Tales of Beedle the Bard is, it's a collection of Wizard Fairy-tales in the World of Harry Potter. The 5 stories include are -
"The Wizard and the Hopping Pot"

This story is about the legacy of an old man who, in his generosity, used his pot to brew magical potions and antidotes for other people when they needed his help. Upon his death, he leaves all his belongings to his only son, who has none of the virtues his father had. After his father's death, the son finds the pot and a single slipper inside it together with a note from his father that reads, "In the fond hope, my son, that you will never need it".

Bitter for having nothing left but a pot, the son closes the door on every person who asks for his help. Each time he does so, the pot takes on the symptoms of the ones who ask for help; it starts disturbing the son and prevents him from having any peace of mind. This continues until the son finally gives up and provides aid to the town. Upon doing this, the pot's ailments are removed one by one and the son's ordeal finally ends one day when the slipper he received from his father falls out of the pot; he puts the slipper on the pot's foot and the two walk off into the sunset.
"The Fountain of Fair Fortune"

In this story, there is a fountain where once per year, one person may bathe to have his or her problems answered. This is how three witches meet. The first witch, Asha, suffers from an incurable disease. The second, Altheda, endures poverty and powerlessness due to a robbery. The third, Amata, is distraught after being left by her beloved. The three witches decide to try to reach the fountain together but along the way, a luckless Muggle knight, Sir Luckless, also joins them.

On their path to the fountain, they face three challenges. The first involves a giant worm that demands "proof of [their] pain". The second, a steep slope where they have to bring the "fruit of their labours". The third challenge, crossing a river, requires them to pay with "the treasure of [their] past". Amata passes the challenge by using magic to withdraw the memories of her ex-lover and drop them into the water.

At the fountain, Asha collapses from exhaustion. To save her, Altheda brews an invigorating potion that also cures Asha of her disease and need of the fountain. Altheda realizes that her skills are a means to earn money, so she also no longer needs the fountain. Amata realizes that washing away her regret for her cruel and false lover removed her need as well. Sir Luckless bathes in the water, after which he flings himself at Amata's feet and asks for "her hand and her heart" which she happily gives. Everyone gets an answer to his or her problem, unaware that the fountain held no magical power at all.
"The Warlock's Hairy Heart"
The story is about a young and handsome warlock who decides to never fall in love, so he uses Dark Arts to prevent himself from doing so. His family, hoping he will change, does nothing. However, one day, he hears two servants whispering about him not having a wife, so he decides to find a talented, rich, and beautiful witch and marry her to gain everyone's envy.

He meets that girl the next day. Though the girl is both "fascinated and repelled", the warlock persuades her to come to a dinner feast at his castle. During the feast, she tells him that she needs to know he has a heart. The warlock shows her his beating hairy heart inside a crystal casket in his dungeon. The witch begs him to put it back inside himself. After the warlock does so, she embraces him. However, being disconnected from its body for so long, his heart has developed savage tastes as it has degenerated into an animalistic state. And so he is driven to take by force a truly human heart. He tears out the witch's heart to replace his own, but finding that he cannot magic the hairy heart back out of his chest, he cuts it out with a dagger. Thus he and the maiden both die, with him holding both hearts in his hands.
"Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump"

This story is about a king who wants to keep all magic to himself. To do this he needs to solve two problems: he must capture and imprison all of the sorcerers in the kingdom and he has to learn magic. He creates a "Brigade of Witch Hunters" and calls for an instructor in magic. Only a "cunning charlatan" with no magical ability responds. The charlatan proves himself with a few simple tricks and begins to ask for jewellery and money to continue teaching. However, Babbitty, the king's washerwoman, laughs at the king one day as he attempts to do magic with an ordinary twig. This causes the king to demand the charlatan join him in a public demonstration of magic and warns that the charlatan will be beheaded if anyone laughs. The charlatan later witnesses Babbitty performing magic in her house. He threatens to expose her if she does not assist him. She agrees to hide and help the demonstration.

During the performance, the brigade captain asks the king to bring his dead hound back to life. Because Babbitty cannot use magic to raise the dead, the crowd thinks the previous acts were tricks. The charlatan exposes Babbitty, accusing her of blocking the spells. Babbitty flees into a forest and disappears at the base of an old tree. In desperation, the charlatan states that she has turned "into a crab apple" and has the tree cut down.

As the crowd departs, the stump starts cackling and makes the charlatan confess. The stump cackles again, demanding the king never hurt a wizard again, and build a statue of Babbitty on the stump to remind him of his foolishness. The king agrees and heads back to the palace. Afterwards, a "stout old rabbit" with a wand in its teeth hops out from a hole beneath the stump and leaves the kingdom.
"The Tale of the Three Brothers"

The story is about three brothers who, while traveling together, reach a treacherous river. They make a magical bridge over the river wherein just as they cross, they meet the personification of Death, who is angry for losing three potential victims. He pretends to be impressed by them and grants each a wish as a reward. The oldest brother asks for an unbeatable dueling wand, so Death gives him the Elder Wand. The middle brother asks for the ability to resurrect the dead, so Death gives him the Resurrection Stone. The youngest brother does not trust Death and asks for a way to stop Death from following him, so Death reluctantly gives him his Cloak of Invisibility. Afterward, the brothers go their separate ways.

The oldest brother resolves a previous qualm by using the wand to kill the man with whom he quarreled, but his bragging about the wand's incredible power ends with him getting robbed of it and murdered in his sleep. The middle brother resolves a previous loss by using the stone to bring back the woman to whom he wanted to be married, but the sight of her being partly alive and full of sorrow for being back in the mortal world ends with him committing suicide. The youngest brother Death never manages to find, as he stays hidden under his cloak. Many years later, the brother removes his cloak and gives it to his son. Content with the life he has lived, he greets Death as an old friend and equal. The thing about this is that the youngest brother makes the smartest decision. The two older brothers ask for something good but end up being murdered or killed.

This last one "The Tale of the Three Brothers" is one of the main themes in the final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The rest were just titles until Rowling actually wrote them all and produced it's own book.
With my official notice given I have to start packing up all my things. These are the times I wonder why I collect so much stuff. I have the normal furniture; bed, desk, dining table and chairs, book shelves and love seat but then I also have a few hundred boxes full of toys, magazines, trading cards, books and statues. I am giving myself one week (3 hours after work everyday) to pack up my "toy" room, figured that would be plenty of time. I had already gone through my bedroom and took all my action figures down and boxed them up. But of course things don't go as planned. It's only been a few days and I'm realizing that it's taking me a lot longer to pack things up also I'm running out of bins. I usually pack my toys in plastic bins as they tend to protect my things better then card board boxes but I'm only about a third of the way through my toy room and I'm running low on bins. I even went out and bought five new bins and those were filled in minutes. I can feel the familiar anxiety creep back into my life. I've been really good at keeping it a bay but in recent months I've had a few attacks but I can feel it returning once again. Rationally I know everything will get done, I still have a month before I have to move out. But the more I load everything into my living room the more I see on how much stuff I actually have and that I'm going to have to find an apartment with some storage space or I'll have to rent a storage unit in addition to my rent cost, which isn't a happy thought. Now I just feel like I'm babbling, packing is moving along, slowly but moving forward. I still hope to have everything packed by early March and find a place to move by mid March so I can take a few weeks to move in rather then just one weekend... fingers crossed. I was fortunate enough to see an advance screening of Disney Pixar's new movie Onward. I brought my friend Brian along to a sponsored PGA (Producer's Guild of America) screening. I've been looking forward to seeing this movie ever since I saw the trailer a few months back. It comes two things I love Fantasy and D&D, so I was going into this ready to love it and I have to say I LOVED IT!!!!

Here's a quick synopsis: Set in a fantastical world, where the populace once had magic,
two teenage elf brothers, Ian and Barley Lightfoot, receive a wizard's
staff as a prearranged gift from their father, who died before Ian was
born and when Barley was too young to remember him. The staff came with a
spell that will bring him back for only 24 hours, so his sons can meet
him. Prompted by Barley, Ian uses the spell, only to end up with just
his father's legs. This causes the brothers to go on a quest for a way
to bring back the rest of their father before the time is up.

I think for me personally this is one of my top five Pixar movies. I cried minutes in and I continued to cry through out. The idea of bringing back your father for one day hit me hard, I would do anything to see and talk to my dad again for one more day. And then the other theme of family and being brothers was also close to my heart. I of course loved the fantasy theme, imagining a world of fantasy but within modern times. I love the idea that magic is hard to do and others developed technology to take it's place, technology that anyone could use causing magic to die out. I liked the brothers relationship, though I am the older brother in my situation I felt connected to both brothers, the younger brothers shyness and awkwardness and the older brothers love of D&D and caring about his younger brother.
There were several moments where my heart actually ached. One involved a tape recorder and the second was towards the end. Tom Holland is fantastic as the younger brother Ian and of course Chris Pratt is hilarious as the older brother Barley but also has some very sweet moments. Octavia is one of my all time favorite actresses and she killed it as the once ferocious Manticore and Julia Louis-Dreyfus was perfect as the mom.

I will be seeing this movie again in the theaters for sure and will be a must buy when it comes to blu-ray.

Onward gets a solid A from me. I was in tears the first few minutes of this episode... more on that later but first here's a quick synopsis of Episode Five "Stardust City Rag".

In a flashback, Seven of Nine mercy-kills her foster son and Starfleet officer Icheb, a fellow xB, after his Borg implants have been ripped out by the black-marketeer Bjayzl. In the present, La Sirena
arrives at Freecloud, where Raffi discovers that Maddox is being held
prisoner by Bjayzl, who intends to sell him to the Tal Shiar. Picard's
crew plan to recover Maddox by staging a prisoner exchange, with Seven
(whose Borg implants Bjayzl covets) as the bait. When Bjayzl recognizes
Seven, Seven drops the charade and reveals her true intention: to kill
Bjayzl to avenge Icheb. Picard persuades Seven to relent, and Maddox is
safely recovered and beamed to La Sirena. Afterward, Seven
returns to Freecloud and kills Bjayzl without Picard's knowledge. In
sickbay, Maddox tells Picard what he knows about Soji and Dahj,
explaining that he sent them to Earth and the Artifact in order to
discover the true motivation behind the synth ban. After Picard leaves
them alone, Jurati tearfully kills Maddox, saying "If you'd seen what I
saw". Meanwhile, Raffi tries to reconnect with her estranged son
Gabriel, who is married to a Romulan woman, but is rebuffed and rejoins
the La Sirena.
As I said at the start of this blog, two minutes in an it felt like my heart was being ripped out. The scene of Icheb's dissection was horrific, and actually a bit to much (for Trek). And when Seven had to mercy kill him I was a mess. I knew this was going to be a rough episode to watch. I loved watching Seven and Picard interact. Seven's life hasn't been the best the past 20 years. I like that she's helping the helpless, but at what costs. Jeri Ryan's acting (which is always amazing) was on point in this episode. My heart just broke for her and everything she's been through. When she confronted Bjayzl you can hear the hurt that she caused, the pain of being betrayed and the lost of Icheb really has effected her life. She felt responsible for his death since Bjayzl found him through Seven. I loved that Seven went back down the the planet and killed Bjayzl. I wish it as a slower more painful death but I guess it looked and sounded painful enough, for at least a few seconds before she disintegrated.
We had a side story with Raffi and her estranged son. She tried so hard to convince him that she's clean and sober but he's been hurt to much and for to long to accept it. Raffi tried so hard but in the end was rejected and went back to the ship. I'm sure she's going to go down a deep dark hole in the next episode.

I knew something was up with Dr. Jurati but I didn't expect her to kill Maddox. I mean she was obviously shown something so horrific that will happen if things aren't changed to kill the man she loved. I'm not sure how her story is going to unfold. I actually liked her in the beginning but once Commodore Oh visited her I knew something was up. My speculation is that Commodore Oh mind melded with Dr. Jurati and showed she something, maybe a future where synths take over or destroy humanity. I think time travel is part of this series, but what Commodore Oh showed her was it real or fabricated? I mean I could be complete wrong about all of this but that's one thing I love about this series is I have no idea where this story is going and that's exciting.

Can't wait for the next episode. So it begins... Apartment hunting. I'm looking for a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment that's at least 1000 square feet. I need good size closets and a balcony/backyard (to store things). It must be a single level or top floor (I can not live under anyone). I'm looking to spend no more the $1800 a month. I'm looking to stay in the valley area (Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Valley Village, Studio City, Burbank and such). I know getting a 2 bedroom place in decent area is a tall order. When I searched Zillow only a handful of places popped up and only a three matched my criteria.

I had already set up an appointment at 1pm with this really nice place, they actually had two places available. My buddy Brian came with me as a second pair of eyes. The first place a Triplex (house), 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. The place was small but very cute and every clean. I only shared one wall with a little old lady. Best thing about this place is it had a rather large back yard and side yard, especially for being an "apartment". Downside the closets were non-existence. But I was super excited about this place. When then walked about a block away to another apartment that was available. This one was 2 bedroom, 2 baths, it was bigger in size and had hardwood floors, the last place had tile floors. Both bedrooms had a bathroom attached. The closets were much larger then the last but there was no outside space. Best thing about this place is that it was a good size, downside to this place was the fact that it was the middle apartment. I would have people on both sides of me. But I liked both places so I didn't make a decision at the time. I grabbed an application and said I would let them know on Monday.

After lunch Brian and I drove around to other apartments that were available to check out the neighborhoods. Some were in decent areas, some were in not so decent areas. I called a few places to see if we could get in to see them but only left messages.

When we got back to my place Brian and I talked about the two apartments that we did see. I was leaning towards the smaller place because it had a great outside space where I could buy a small storage shed and store a lot of my things. As I looked around my house it dawned on me that I have alot of things, I mean I know I have a lot of toys and collectables, but I have alot of clothing, including lots of cosplay outfits and this smaller place had very little closet space and though it had a huge back yard I didn't want to have to go out back to get cloths every morning. So that place is out. The second place had two decent size closets but no place to store all of my empty toy bins once my toy room is up so that place is out as well.

This is going to be harder then I thought. Brian mentioned getting a storage unit to hold my excess and I'm good with that but then I was thinking maybe I can up my rent to $1900/$2000 and get a larger place that had storage area so I can't keep everything under one roof. Uping my rent from $1800 to $2000 had added a few more places to look at, so that's promising. .

Overall it was a good first day of apartment hunting. I know it's going to be difficult to find a place that's just exactly what I need but I do have a month to do it (or four weekends). I know what's important and what too look for. I'll keep you guys posted on how this hunt goes. If you hear of anything that meets my criteria please let me know. After taking a few months off because of holidays and such I had another "Nerdstrong" Board Game Night at my place. This is something that I've been doing every month the past year or so. This final one is kind of bitter sweet as this will be the last of the game nights for the foreseeable future, since I'll be moving in March and my new place will probably be much smaller then my current house. But who knows maybe someone will start having game nights at their place or I can plan to have them at the gym like we did in the past.

We had a great turn out for this one, we usually get 10 to 15 people per game night but this time around we had about 20 people. We had three tables playing different games, until it was just one table playing games. The last hour and a half there was a few of us playing games while the majority were in the kitchen/dining area socializing. One thing I love about these people is that we might be socially awkward nerds but you get us together and we can talk. It looked like everyone had a good night. We ate, drank, gamed and laughed, couldn't ask for a better night. Hopefully this won't be my last game night but for now it was a great way to end the tradition. Geekyfanboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06277495132632152696noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4013521694510942639.post-88940401969076016062020-02-20T12:12:00.003-08:002020-02-20T12:12:17.827-08:00Why I'm Moving

Today I gave my 30 +9 days (be out by March 31st) notice at the house I've been living in for the past two and a half years. When Andrew (1st roommate) and I first got the place it was perfect, but soon we got to know the owner (he goes by Bunny), he's this older cooky British guy. Once a month he'd come by the house just to check up on things to make sure we weren't damaging his property. He did not like Andrew so he would always deal with me. After ever visit I'd get a call about something he didn't like about the house.

Some of the worst ones were during the summer when it's really hot outside and the outside plants started to wilt (as they do) he'd threaten to take money from my security deposit if the I didn't take care of them better. First of all per our lease he is suppose to supply a gardener (which he did once a year) and I did agree to water which I did once a week but even with that it's hot and things brown out here.

He complain if we changed door knobs even though the knobs that were there were from the 70's and did not work. Last year he complained about our cleanliness, he didn't like how we were keeping our bathrooms and once again threaten to use my security deposit replace shower/toilet and such. He then hired a cleaning lady to come clean our place, he paid for the initial cleaning and said that he wanted us to pay for her to come once a month afterward, if I didn't agree to it he would raise our rent. (we were no longer in a lease at this time so he could do whatever he liked). I agreed to pay for the cleaning lady.
He had a heart attack when I removed the shower curtain rod from my bathroom because it kept falling and hitting me. He hounded me until I put it back up and took pictures to prove that I have.

And recently our Fridge and Microwave broke, I informed him back in December and per our lease he is not responsible for fixing appliance and I'm okay with that. I have my own refrigerator in the garage and I purchase a small microwave. He asked that we get a repair man to come out and look at the appliances, which I was fine with but I have been busy the past few months and we have the back up appliances so it's not a priority. Well at the beginning of this month he texted me asking if I had them looked at and of course I had not but told him I still plan to. Well he flipped out and texted me back. "No more bullshit, I want those appliances looked at by end of week". That was it for me, I knew that I wanted to move out. I am a very patient and laidback guy and I have put up with alot of shit but that was it for me. Needless to say that I had already scheduled a repair man come out and actually paid a few hundred dollars to fix the fridge (which I now regret) but the mirowave was going to take over $500 to fix and there was no way I was going to pay for that.

That brings us to yesterday when Bunny come over for his monthly visit. I stress out over these visit because I know he's going to complain about something and sure enough I got an call my Darcy (Bunny's realtor and ex) informing me that Bunny want's Adam (current roommate) out and wants him to take all his equipment with him (Adam is a black smith) immediately. She informed me that Bunny was fine if I stayed but Adam had to go. He says all of Adam equipment is a fire hazard, but Adam take precaution with all his work and Bunny has known about all this stuff for a year and a half. Bunny also claims that it's Adam's equipment that cause the appliances to fail which is BS as the appliances are old and not on the same circuit as the garage stuff. Anyways I immediately spoke with Adam and decided that we would move out as soon as we can so we don't have to give any more money to this person. As I said I was already planning on it but I wanted to wait until my downtime at work, but this forced my hand and we will be leaving by the end of March. I sent them the official notice this morning, still waiting to hear back from them, I also know that Bunny is going to try and make me pay for every little issue in that house (and there are alot but they were there before we moved in). I hope it doesn't come to this but I'm preparing for fight for my security deposit.... Stay Tuned...Geekyfanboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06277495132632152696noreply@blogger.com1
