Unexpected Work... and New Tires

Well this was going to be the first weekend that I didn't have to go into work. I was looking forward to getting some stuff done around the apartment, my toy room is a mess. Well at 10am I got a call from one of the producers saying that our EP wanted some footage that was shot on Friday uploaded to our FTP site so she can see it. Currently our EP is in Europe shooting in Paris. I was not a happy camper. I had plans that day and being the nice boss that I am, didn't want to ruin my AE's weekend so I decided I would do this myself.

But before I went into work I really needed to get new tires for my jeep. The front left one was going bald and I was afraid it would blow while driving. I've been wanting to do this for about a month but never seemed to have the time. So I decided that I would get new tires then go into work and get this footage uploaded for her. The tire thing took a bit longer then expected. I knew I only wanted to spend about $100.00 per tire and I did pretty good. Got some really good tires for $96 and after the install and taxes it was going to cost about $600.00. Five minutes after I left the tire place and started to walk home, since it was going to take several hours I got a call from the tire place telling me that my shocks are bad. This wasn't the first time I heard that so I figure I would get that done and they were running a deal if you buy three you get the fourth free.. So I did that and my final bill came too $998.96. I look at it this way... I have never replaced my tires or shocks so it was all for a good thing and boy do my new tires look great.

So now it's 6pm, Harry and I have dinner and we both go into work to get this thing done. Four hours latter it's done and we are at home relaxing on the couch watching the news. Not how I planned my Saturday but I did manage to get one thing marked off my list. Sometimes it's tough being the boss.

  1. Hey, that’s not a bad price to pay to get all four tires AND all your shock absorbers replaced! It may be that the shocks they put in your car were good quality replacements, because they do usually cost less than original parts. Some people are a little iffy about using replacement parts, but there are some good quality branded replacement parts that do the job as good as, if not better, than the original parts for a considerably lower price. It’s a good thing you got your car all fixed up. With a bad tire that’s on its last thread, there’s no telling what kind of disaster has been averted by you having your wheels replaced at last.

  2. I agree with what Miroslav said about the tires. You avoided a road disaster by simply switching your tires out for new ones. The tires are, in my opinion, the most vulnerable parts of the car since they take a lot of punishment on the road. They’re subject to more wear-and-tear than the rest of the car; so, it’s important check on them regularly.

  3. Well, you may not be prepared to spend a huge amount of money on new tires and shocks, but I think you’re still lucky at the end of the day. At least you know that your car tires and shocks are now at their best condition. It’s better than not changing them and regret afterwards. You should always keep your auto parts in good condition, so that you’re guaranteed that you'll always have a smooth ride!
