Visiting Mom

Today Harry, Daisy and I went to visit my Mom. It had been a few months since our last visit and she was having a small BBQ. My brother (Michael), sister-in-law (Lora) and nephew (Kenobi) were visiting also and supposedly bringing Lora's brother's family and they were going to go sailing. They wound up not coming, for some reason... so it was just my brother's family, Mom, Chuck (step-dad) and Grandma. Since we brought Daisy we stayed a bit longer then we normally do. As Daisy is good for about 10 hours alone (potty break). And since it's a two hour drive up to see them and then two hour drive back that leave little time to hang out.

But it's always nice visiting family as I don't get to see them as much as I would like to. Also I got to see my nephew Kenobi twice in one week which is always great as he is growing up so fast. We took to a small beach and he got to experience sand and the ocean for the first time.. he loved both!!!

All in all it was a great day.

Recording our Next Podcast

Today Jenni came over and we recorded our next "regular" podcast for Knights of the Guild Ep.19 parts 1 & 2. We do these once a month but it's felt like forever since we did the last one. I've been doing solo Microcasts and CompanionCasts the past month it took me a while before I got into recording with a co-host. But soon enough we were bantering back an forth like we always do. There was a lot of listener feedback that I actually split it up and have it in both podcasts. And with listener feedback come me making mistakes, which in turns means I'll be doing lots of editing. Gotta get part 1 edited and done by August 15th and part two by August 29th.. of course I like getting things done and in the can far before they are due, not that it happens like that all the time. But I currently have 3 Companioncasts and 2 Regularcasts that need editing. Maybe I'll just take an entire day on lock myself in the office and edited everything at once.. will see what happens.. as long as I stay ahead of my release dates.

Podcasts and Home Gyms

Today Harry and I went to Sports Chalet to pick up a home gym system, we saw one there a few months ago that we really liked, but when we got there the no longer had it. They had a similar one but it was almost double in price. The one we liked was $499.99 and the new one is $799.99 and that's just for the machine you then have to by the weights and they had a set for about $300.00 so we look to spend over $1000.00 for this home gyms. Well I got cold feet, since I'm out of work and there is no money coming in and only going out I hesitated on spending that much. So I said I would shop around online and see if we could get a better deal.

So when I got home I checked online and was very surprised at the costs of home gyms.. for a decent one you are looking to spend $1500 to $4000. So I talked it over with Harry and we both agreed since it's for our health and to better our lives it's worth the $1000 to get it.. so we plan on going back this weekend to pick it up. Also spending that much is another motivator to keep me working out.. there is no way I'm spending that kind of money and not using it.

After that I worked on editing my next CompanionCast for Knights of the Guild podcast. New episodes come out every Tuesday and the companioncasts come out the day after.. so I really wanted to get the next one done early. I was hoping to get more then one done but I did manage to complete S4E4, still hope to finish E5, E6 and E7 by the weekend.. but will see how things go.

All in all is was another busy day.

Tron Vintage Figure from SDCC 2010

I've had requests for a better looking video of my new Tron action figure that I got at SDCC.. so here it is.

Prop 8 is no longer... at least for now

Today was a good day for equality. Prop 8 which banned same sex marriages in California was deemed unconstitutional and overturned. They did put a stay on reversing the ban meaning gay couples still can't get married until the appeal process, which can take years .

I just don't understand the hate towards gay marriage. How does two loving adults wanting to share their lives together effect straight couples? The churches, especially the Mormon church put millions of dollars into ads saying "think of the children, it will hurt the children", so I ask again how is gay marriage going to hurt the children? It doesn't plan and simple.

I have people say "well California has a really good domestic partnership program that gives you about 90% of what a marriage will give you.. aren't you happy with that?" And I respond with NO.. why should gay people not have the full 100% rights of married straight people.

Then some say that they think it's more of an issue of using the term Marriage.. would it be cool if you used the term Civil Unions. Again I say NO, if straight couple can use the term marriage why can't gay couples? We aren't forcing churches to have to marry gay couples.. if they want to segregate the gay couples out that is fine, but they shouldn't be getting any tax breaks or funding from the State. There are plenty of churches out there that are willing to marry gay couples. And for that matter.. lots of gay couple don't need to be married in a church. The reason most gay couples want to get married are the benefits of being married, taxes, hospital visits, etc...

Gay people getting married will in no way hurt "straight" marriages. We still have a long road ahead of us but hopefully this is a start.

And for those asking Harry and I can't get married even if it was legal because of the DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) which is a Federal law that states a marriage is between a man and a woman and the immigration department is ran be Federal law.. so until that is over turned, which they are working on we can't benefit from any of these marriage laws. :(

KOTG CompanionCast S4E3

Show Notes:

It’s time for our next CompanionCast for Season 4 of The Guild. First of all be sure you watched Episode 3 of season 4. If you haven’t seen it yet watch it HERE

What is a CompanionCast?? It’s a behind the scene look at the current episode of The Guild.

I was on set everyday while they shot Season 4. As actors and crew were finished with scenes I would try and speak to them. Get some inside info about the scene they just shot. I also interviewed Felicia Day and Kim Evey about the storyline and Sean Becker about the directing. Each one of these CompanionCasts will be episode specific and will vary in length depending on how much guildie goodness I was about to gather.

In this CompanionCast I interview Felicia Day, Sean Becker, Vince Caso, Greg Aronowitz, Kim Evey, Sandeep Parikh, and Wil Wheaton.

I hope you enjoy a look behind the scenes of Season 4 Episode 3 “Oversupportive’d”

Getting Healthy

As I get closer to the Big 4-0 (Sept. 23rd) I've been more and more concerned with my health. I've gained an large amount of extra weight the past few years and it's had it's effects on my overall health. I use to work out and eat horribly so it would maintain my weight but I stopped working out (I have lots of excuses, work, buying a house, vacation) and still continue to eat horrible and the weight keeps adding up.

So now that I'm about to turn 40 I have decided to really dedicate myself in losing the weight and getting back into shape. I know this won't happen over night but I'm in it for the long haul. To start off with I'm going to do my best at eating less crap food, this will be the biggest struggle for me but I'm going to try my best. Second I'm buying a home gym so I can work out everyday. I use to love to work out (loved how it made me feel) and I'm sure I can get back into that routine.

Today I cleaned out our small garage ( we have a 3 car garage, 1 car and a 2 car section) It's now ready for my home gym which I'll be buying in the next few days. We already have an elliptical machine so my cardio is set. Gotta hook up some music or TV so keep my company.

When I start I'm going to keep a daily workout blog and keep everyone updated on my progress. I'm doing this for several reason.. 1 to keep my friends and family up to date and 2 the more important part, to use it as a motivator. Knowing that folks are watching my progress I hope it encourages me when I'm feeling a bit off or not up to working out... I need you guys to help support me during this tough process. Going to be staring on Monday.. stay tuned.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

While we waited on Harry's truck to be serviced we went to see Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I've heard mixed things about this movie and it hasn't done well at the box office at all.

Like with The Last Airbender, after watching it I don't understand why it's not doing better then it is. I really enjoyed this movie. The storyline was interesting, fun and not overly complicated. the special effects were AWESOME, the car chase scenes were cool and the final battle was great. I just don't understand why it's not doing better then it is. Maybe it's a Nic Cage thing... who knows.. all I know is I'll be buying this movie for sure when it comes out on Blu-Ray.

Errands and a Movie

Today we dropped off Harry's car a the service shop down in Canoga Park. When we do that it's always a few hours before it's done and instead of going home we normally go out for breakfast/lunch and then to a movie. We went and saw The Sorcerer's Apprentice (my review in the following blog).

After the movie we checked with the Dodge Dealer, but his truck wasn't ready yet. So we headed to the Northridge Mall. While there we stopped the Apple Store played around with an iPad. I'm pretty sure that there will be an iPad in the near future for both of us! After strolling trough the mall we finally decided to have lunch in the Northridge Mall at a place called Adelina's Mediterranean Grill. Although it's fast food it was very delicious, lula beef is the best.

After lunch we headed over to the Dodge Dealer and waited for the car to get ready. Around 5 pm they car was ready so I headed home while Harry got his truck and followed.

2nd Anniversary

Today two years ago Harry and I had our commitment ceremony / wedding. You can check out pictures from that day on my personal website. http://geekyfanboy.com/Wedding1.html

Happy Anniversary !!!!

Visting Family

Today I was able to visit my Dad, Brother, Sister-in-law and Nephew. Harry was sick so I traveled to Corona by myself. Did lunch and a bit of shopping with Dad but the majority of my visit was with my sister-in-law Lora and my little guy, nephew Kenobi. He's a little over a year and becoming more and more fun. Even though I only see him a few times a month he knows who I am and will now play with me. I even got a wave goodbye today.
