My 40th Birthday Party

Today was my 40th Birthday Party. Since I spent yesterday getting my tattoo I spent all morning running around trying to get everything done before guests started to arrive. I got up at 7am and started cleaning. Around 9:30 I went out to put up a tent that we used at our wedding as it was suppose to pass 100 degrees here today. Lucky and unlucky we had a wind, which was great to keep it a bit cooler but man was it tough putting up the tent. A few good strong gusts and I was almost lifted off my feet trying to keep the tent earthbound. Finally at 10:30 after struggling for an hour I got he top of the tent on and secure and that's when Harry wakes up and comes out, which was perfect timing as I couldn't let go or it would fly off. So Harry held it and I nailed it to our deck, taped the joints together to make sure it doesn't move. I'm happy to say it survive and stayed up the entire time and didn't blow away.

After the tent Harry and I continued to clean the house getting down around Noon, which left me an hour to get the last minute supplies. But of course we live about 20 from a store to that's 40 minute drive time and 20 minute shopping and I still had to take a shower and get ready. Well by the time I got back several people were here and more started showing up (in the past we've set a time and people have always been at least an hour late, but this time everyone showed up at 1pm.. go figure). I quickly got the drinks and the snacks ready and managed to change my shirt (no shower). Soon more and more people arrived. I did my best to greet them and introduce them to others. Now the party was in full swing and I swore this time I would chat with every guest, even if it's just for a few minutes. Most times I am running around at parties, setting things up, cooking on the BBQ and not visiting much. Well I did get my brother to do the BBQ but I still didn't really relax and talk to everyone as planned. One time I did sit down and talk with a group someone mentioned my birthday cake.. a look of panic crossed my face as I totally forget to get me my Birthday Cake. I quickly went to my phone and started calling people who had yet arrived to see if they could pick one up. Luckily I got a hold of our reality/friend Mary who was gracious enough to pick one up for me, talk about saving the day.

Two and a half hours into the party the breeze died down and it started to get hot. We ate our burgers and hot dogs and folks were visiting. I did manage to sit down a few times and chat with some folks but something always came up or someone needed something so I did more running around. About 3 it was too hot so we decided to do cake inside the house so everyone gathered and they all sung Happy Birthday and we had some of the best ice cream cake I have ever had (don't know where Mary got the cake but I need to find out). After cake I opened gifts and around 5ish folks started to leave.

So as the party winds down I actually get to hang out and chat with some of my friends. Soon there were just a hand full and we headed out back, as it was cooler now and chatted on the deck. So I got to spend some one on one time with Troy, Luis, Will and Harry. We all chatted for hours and around 7:30ish Luis and Will took off and by 8pm Troy was gone.

The party was great, there were almost 40 people here and with those kinds of large parties it's just too hard to visiting with everyone. I did manage to talk to everyone even if it was just for a few seconds. Some people who I was hoping would stay late so we could chat had to leave early but I think everyone had fun in the end and even though I was running around doing my hosting duties I had a great 40th Birthday Party.

My First Tattoo - Hogwarts School Crest

Got my first Tattoo.. the first video is my very first experience as the first needle goes into my arm.  The second video is after it's all done and I'm home talking about my experience. One thing I forgot to mention in my video is the outlining of the of the tattoo.. though painful was nothing compared to the coloring of the tattoo. I think that is why they do these kinds of things in two sessions.. the skin and are is raw and in pain from the outline drawing then they go back and go over the same area with the coloring and it's just double the pain.

Here are some pictures from the experience.. first one (on the left) is the carbon copy that the tattoo artist copies your picture from. It's more a a guildline for the tattoo.

Second picture on the right is the tattoo online done and some of the black shading.

The next picture on the left is the yellow and orange coloring done (most painful).

And the final picture on the right is the finished tattoo in all it's GLORY

Well I Turned 40 Today

Well it's finally here.. I turned the BIG 4-0 today. Honestly I was looking forward to turning 40. I had friends saying.. wow 40 or you can be 39.95 but I am really happy to be turning 40. My 30's where some of the best times of my life. And I'm hoping 40's will be too. There are days I feel like I'm 80 and other days I feel like I'm 18. I think being a geek and loving scifi and fantasy has kept me young at heart. I don't feel 40 inside, and from what people are telling me I don't look it, but even it I did it wouldn't bother me.

This morning I spent 3 hours on Facebook and Twitter thanking the few hundreds of Happy Birthdays comments that I got. I never felt so loved, I have so many wonderful online/real life friends. I wanted to personally thank every person who wished me a Happy Birthday because they took the time to send the message it's the least I can do to thank them individually. I also got lots of very nice compliments and praise which I have always had a hard time accepting, I don't know why, I'm just being the person I was meant to be. But I do appreciate all the nice things everyone has said.

Today was a pretty low key birthday day.. Harry and I went out to Islands (one of my favorite places) to get my Birthday lunch. I worked out in the yard, and did a bit of cleaning around the house. The big 40th Bash will be on Saturday the 25th. Got about 40+ people coming over to the house for a BBQ/Birthday Bash.. should be lots of fun.

Once again I want to thank all my wonderful friends and family for making me feel extremely lucky and special on this big day!!!

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1 Trailer

Today WB released the first trailer for part 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. They did release a combined trailer for both parts 1 & 2 a few months back but this one is solely for part 1. Of course as soon as it was released I started downloading it and with our horrible internet it took about 20 minutes but I was finally able to watch it.

First let me say I'm an emotional guy, always have been. I cry at movies and TV shows and I'm not ashamed of it. I love that a movie or TV show can move me so much it brings me to tears. I love that I can get into the story and characters so much that they feel like part of my existence.

Seeing this new Harry Potter trailer brought me to tears not sad tears but excited tears. The kind of excitement that you feel in your chest. I am a HUGE Potter fan. I LOVE the books and the movies. I've read/listen to the books so many times I have lost count. I've seen all the movies at least into double digits. I'm always excited when a new Harry Potter flick comes out but from some reason this one really hit me.. maybe it's because it's the final book and part 1 of the final movie. All I know is I haven't been this excited for a movie since I saw the trailer for Star Wars Episode 1.

I know what I'll be doing on November 19th 2010!!!!

A Healthier Me - Day 37

Today's Workout:

30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical
3 sets of 10 for shoulders (45 lbs)
3 sets of 10 on the front leg press (45 lbs)
3 sets of 10 free weights (75 lbs)
3 sets of 10 on squats (110 lbs)

Got a late start to my workout today and that wasn't good, felt very sluggish and unmotivated. I actually started with my weight training first and then cardio as I did not want to get on the elliptical. But I did but only for 30 minutes and not my new 45 minutes routine. Think I'm going to try and change from working out in the evening to working out in the morning.

The Event

One good thing about September besides my birthday is new TV season. There's not a lot of new stuff that I want to see but there are a few and today I watched The Event. It airs on Mondays at 9pm. There is a lot of buzz around this one because folks are comparing it "lost". Not much is known about "the Event" in The Event but here is a brief synopsis of the storyline

The Event
follows Sean Walker, a man who, while investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend, Leila, begins to discover the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.

The first episode was okay, you are thrown right into the middle of it. The very first scene are camera people running and screaming.. saying stuff like.. what is it.. and oh my god it's coming...and the air is all disturbed and things are flying everywhere. Then it jumps back 23 minutes, then back 13 months and it continues to go back and forth showing different parts of the same scene that's leading up the what we saw at the beginning of the episode. I'm hoping we don't jump back and forth like this in all the episodes as you really need to keep track of everything but I did like how all the storyline converged at the end.. and the ending is what made me want to see the next episode.

Through this entire episode they keep you guessing on what this "thing" is that everyone is talking about. They use lot of "those people" and vague statements that can go either way. I thought this was a sci fi show so I kept thinking that it was aliens or something like that but you never really know and of course I didn't expect anything in the first episode but that last scene sealed for it.. it's sci fi and I can't wait to see where this story goes.

A Healthier Me - Day 36

Wow.. feels like forever since I worked out last.. I forgot last Friday to work out. It was busy day and the next thing I knew it was 11pm and turned to Harry and said... oh crap I forgot to work out. Guess I'll workout one day during the weekend to make up for it. Well that didn't happen, I had a really tough weekend trying to motivate myself not only to work out but to work on my podcast or do pretty much anything.

So I have not worked out for three days but it wasn't hard getting back into the swing of things. And as I said last week I increased my workout weights by 15 to 20 lbs each. Also still doing 45 minutes of cardio, which is great.

It's Monday so that means weight in day. Current weight is 211

Today's Workout:

30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical
3 sets of ten on the chest fly for my chest (75 lbs)
3 sets of ten on the curl arm for my biceps (45 lbs)
3 sets of ten on the free weight (110 lbs)
3 sets of ten working on my back (75 lbs)

So I lost 2 more lbs last week. Still not losing nearly as much as I was hoping. I am happy to say that Harry and I went food shopping this past weekend and did pretty good at not buying any junk food and really looking at labels to void high fats, high carbs and high sodium. I'm hoping to not eat out all week this week and see what kind of difference that will make in my next week weight in.

Thanks everyone for your continued support.

Cut Scene from Star Wars The Clone Wars Premiere

This Scene was cut from the second half of the premiere of Star Wars The Clone Wars. I thought while watching the episode that it looked like a weird cut and this would explain it. According to TheForce.net this footage should be on the DVD, hopefully cut back into the episode.

I don't know why it was cut as I think it adds a lot to Asajj's character but I'm glad it made it's way online for all to see.. What do you think.. should it have been cut??

Need to Get Me This T-Shirt!!

Sir Ian Mckellen is just plain AWESOME and once again he shows off his gay pride. I really love that shirt and hope they actually sell them somewhere.

EDIT!!! Found out some more Info about the Shirt and Slogan.

You may know Sir Ian as a fabulous Shakespearean actor, or as Magneto in the X-Men films, or Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, but he's been out and proud for a long time. In my efforts to track down the source of the image, I discovered first that it's part of a British education campaign from Stonewall.org, a British advocacy and lobbying group that McKellen helped co-found. The picture of McKellen shows him wearing a t-shirt with the slogan "Some People are Gay Get Over It" created by school children and used by Stonewall in the U.K. for school education and awareness about homophobic bullying, and the necessity of calling attention to bullying, and stopping it at schools. McKellen has tirelessly worked for QLTBAG organizations since his public affirmation of his orientation in 1983, on BBC's Radio 3. Shortly thereafter, McKellen and a group of activists founded Stonewall, using the name of the historic N.Y. bar as a beacon for their human rights advocacy and education campaigns.

The Some People are Gay Get Over It slogan was used on posters, educational materials, and postcards in Britain, featuring a variety of celebrities and endorsed by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, among others. You can still buy a t-shirt or order the posters and post cards.
