Podcasting & Friends

Today I was suppose to go to my friend Kim's house for a pool party but didn't make it due to jeep issues so instead I worked on my next episode of Confessions of a Fanboy. It's been several months since I released a new episode and I have really hoping to release a new episode every month. But I did manage to edit a new episode and release it, well I uploaded it to itunes but I haven't officially announced it yet.

My buddy Rupert stopped by my house to take some pictures of the Super Moon as well as my friend Nicki, who was staying the night with me since we were both going to the set of My Gimpy Life tomorrow. I made these guys watch Total Blackout, my new favorite reality show on Syfy. It was a fun evening.

Picture a Day in May #5

Here's my picture for the fifth day of May. I actually really like this picture of me.. I think I'm going to change all my profile pics on my social media sites to this one. I've gotten quite a few compliments on this pix from other folks as well.

My Brother's Birthday

Today is my Brother's 37th Birthday, can't believe he's 37 years old. I remember him as this little annoying kid always wanted to hang out with me and getting me in trouble all the time because he use to hit me and I would hit him back but then get in trouble because I was the older one and should know better. But as we got older we became closer and I watched him become a fantastic husband and father.

I love you bro!! Hope you have a very Happy Birthday

The Avengers (My Review)

I went and saw The Avengers today (opening day). I didn't do the midnight thing and instead went at noon, I figure there would be no lines or crowds like there will be at night... and I was right for the most part. Don't get my wrong the theater was packed but I had gotten there a half hour early and got my prime seat. Everyone started filling in a few minutes before the movie started. I did attend solo, but surprising there were quite a few guys there solo.

I saw this movie in 2D, I'm not a huge fan of 3D converted films. But with that said when I see this movie again, and I will be seeing it again soon I will try and see it in 3D.

Alot of my twitter friends saw the film at midnight so I got a ton of tweets expressing their thoughts about the film and the overall census was that it was EPIC!! So if my hopes weren't high enough all these rave reviews made my hopes go even higher.. and I have to say I was not disappointed.

First of all I'm a HUGE Joss Whedon fan, I've loved everything he has done so I was really excited when I heard he was not only writing this film but directing it as well and this movie has Joss written all over it. The banter between characters, the action sequences, the camera shots and angles.. All Joss Whedon.

I was worried that since there are so many character that some would shine more then others, but honestly they all had their moments in the spotlight. Each character grew and was well developed. The acting was superb and as I mentioned before the writing was incredible. The SFX were amazing and the pacing of the film was quick and intense.. right from the beginning. There were defiantly some hilarious Joss moments. I'm not going into details as I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. But I will say Hulk has several moments that the crowd just erupts with laughter.

I enjoyed all these characters in their own movies, Ironman, Hulk, Thor and Captain America but this movie is by far one of my most favorite super hero movies to date. I can't wait to see it again and again.

Also be sure you stay through the credits.. there is one scene in the middle of the credits and then another one at the very end... both are pretty awesome!!!

I give Avengers 10 out of 10

Picture A Day In May - Day 4

In honor of Star Wars Day.. Here is my picture for May 4th. I'm actually enjoying trying to come up with fun new ways of taking a picture of me that just isn't a "normal" picture of me. Of course it's only day 4.. lets see if I still like the idea on Day 15 or 30 :) But until then.. I'm having some fun. If you have any suggestions on what I should do next in my pixs let me know... I'm taking requests :)

Happy Star Wars Day!!!

Just Another Day

Pix a day in May #3
Nothing much to report today.. I did catch up on some TV.. watched a few episodes of Modern Family, Cougar Town, Lost Girl and Glee. I worked a little bit on a new Confessions of a Fanboy but still really struggling with motivation for podcasting. I cleaned a bit and did a bit a yard work.

Was feeling a bit down and don't really know why but four hours of Glee and a few hours of playing Minecraft with my bestie and my spirits were lifted. I ended the night feeling pretty good.

I also released my third picture from my A Picture A Day In May series.. since I watched some episodes of Firefly last night I went with a Firefly theme and put on my awesome Jayne hat..

Also spent the last half hour of my night reading tweets from friends who were watching Avengers. I didn't make any plans to see the midnight screening, would have if anyone would have asked but I didn't get any invites. I plan to go during the day tomorrow to see it. I'm sure I'll be posting my review on my blog when I have done so.

Pizza and Firefly

Tonight I was hanging with another one of my besties.. this time it was Robert. And I would be traveling to his place in Los Angeles. I left my place around 6pm, I needed to be at his place at 7:30pm. Traffic on the freeway was great and I got to LA in record time. Still had a half hour to get to his place but once I got off onto surface roads everything changed and for the next hour I was in bumper to bumper traffic and only had to go about five miles. I finally got to his place around 8pm (took me two hours).

Once at his place we ordered some pizza and began our Firefly marathon. Robert is a noob Browncoat. He has only seen the first 2/3rds of the pilot Serenity. Robert and I previously did a movie/pizza night at his place but since I found out that he hasn't seen Firefly I turned our movie nights into Firefly nights. So for the next few months will be doing Firefly nights at his place.

As I said he saw the first 2/3rds of the pilot so we watched the last fifteen minutes of the pilot Serenity before putting on The Train Job (ep. 2). Pizza arrived as we started with episode three Bushwhacked and we finished off the night with one of my favorite episodes.. Episode 4 Shindig.

Robert enjoyed every episode and fell in love with Kaylee.. but I mean come on.. I'm a gay man and I fell in love with Kaylee. Re-watching Firefly is so much fun. I've been with the series since it first aired out of order on Fox and I have loved every minute of it. I'm so happy to be able to share this love with one of my best friends. Soon Robert will be quoting the show and calling himself a Browncoat.

Picture a Day in May (Day 2)

Here's my second picture in my Picture a day in May series.. this time I went with my Geek Mob persona and like all good godfathers they have an animal in their lap and of course since I'm a geek I went with a Tribble.

The Morning After

As I have mentioned in my previous blog post I'm a lightweight when it comes to drinking. I didn't drink lot in my teens, 20's or 30's. With these movie marathons though I have enjoyed getting drunk one weekend a month the past six months or so. I feel like I'm making up for lost time.

Since I started drinking more frequently (if you can call once a month that), I've noticed that I don't get sever hang overs. So when I got up this morning 7am (only slept for 5 hours) I felt pretty good. I actually laid in bed and napped on and off for another 2 hours. I finally got out of bed around 9am, Will was still fast asleep. So I jumped on the computer and did my morning routine.

Around 10am I started to feel a slight headache coming on so I took some Advil to prevent it from getting any worse. I also made me some pancakes as I was starving. Will got up around 10:30 and looked horrible. He wasn't as lucky as me, I guess wine really does a number on him so he was feeling some pain. Of course me being me I pampered him. I got some some OJ, made him some sausages and had him lye down on one of my comfy couches. After he had his breakfast I gave him some Advil, got his blanket and tucked him into the couch so he could fall back asleep.

For the next few hours I caught up on some TV while Will napped on and off. Around 1pm I was getting hungry for some lunch and Will was up reading Game of Thrones. He was feeling a bit better so we ventured out to El Pollo Loco to grab a bite to eat.

Got back to my place around 3pm, Will packed up his stuff and headed home. So what I thought was going to be a fun 2 hour dinner turned into 19 hours of AWESOME hanging with my bestie Will.

BroDate with Will

It's been a few weeks since my buddy Will and I have hung out and we are both trying harder to not let months go by without hanging. Tonight he was coming to my place and I was going to make some Rosemary Chicken and Roasted Garlic Potatoes for dinner. Will arrived at my place around 8pm  and dinner was ready. Will had brought a bottle of wine and since he was staying the night (he's in between jobs for a few weeks) we partaken in some wine drinking.

Dinner was good and we sat at my dining table for the next five hours chatting and drinking our way through a total of three bottles of red wine (I had nine glasses while Will had eight). We then moved into the TV room and started playing music off our iphones/ipads and singing along (lots of Irish/Celtic music).

I'm a light weight when it comes to drinking and I find red wine gets me buzzed alot faster then most alcohol. So I had a great buzz all night long, until around midnight when I knew I was drunk. Will's tolerance it much higher then mine and within the last hour or so would I say he was really drunk as well..  It was loads of fun.

Around 2am we decided to watch some Firefly so I put in Out of Gas (one of my favorite episodes) but fifteen minutes in, the camera movement got to Will so we decided to call it a night.

A Picture A Day In May

My buddy Andrew did this last year where he took a picture of himself or folks he was with and posted it online every day for an entire month. It was fun seeing the different kind of pictures he would post everyday... so I thought to myself.. oh I want to do that and thus A Picture A Day In May was born...

Everyday I will take a picture of me or the group I am with and post it on twitter and facebook. I hope to take fun and interesting pictures, but I may just take a plain ol' picture of me just to get it done. So will see what happens.. I hope it to be a fun experience.

<-- The picture here is my first pix for May 1st ... I call this one Who-Tastic!!!

Out of Work Woes

With April ending I have now been out of work for seven months. I've never gone this long without a gig. My last dry spell was for six months and that was tough. Working as a freelancer you learn to save money while you have the work, but seven months is to much time off and the money I did save has been long gone. Luckily I got a nice tax refund this year but that too is almost gone. I'm trying not to panic or drop back into my depression that I was in at the beginning of the year but it's hard. I do have family that can help financially but I have never asked for anything my entire life and it's very hard to ask now, but I can't lose my house so I need to swallow my pride and ask for assistance.

I'm a 41 year old man, this is not how I thought I'd be living my life in my 40's.

But it hasn't all been bad, since I have had this time off I am taking advantage of it. I've worked since I was 12 years old, I rarely take vacations or time off so part of me thinks I deserve this break. I've been having movie marathons with friends, I traveled to Orlando for Harry Potter theme park and recently to Montana for my buddy Chris. Of course you battle with the idea of spending money that you know you'll need later but sometimes you just have to say screw it and move forward. Somehow things always work out.

I don't know what the future holds for me, all I can do is keep my chin up and hope for the best. In the mean time I'm going to try and enjoy this time off before all the craziness starts up again.

Shooting 5 Minute Comedy Hour

Today they shot an episode of Jeff Lewis' 5 Minute Comedy Hour at my place. I can't say much about it, thought it's hilarious and it's going to be EPIC..  Crew started getting here around 8am. Obviously Jeff Lewis was here and a few other surprise guest stars. The crew wasn't much larger then the one that was here the previous Sunday, but because of my house guests Jes and Rupert and the extra cast members my house felt really packed.

Jen also arrived to my place not because of the shoot but to fix my computer. She got to work on that immediately.

The shoot started off a bit crazy as the wardrobe person called and said she had gotten into an accident while traveling to my place. It wasn't bad but it was going to make her late. Around 10ish Sean Becker, the director got a call from the wardrobe person who wasn't making much sense but he manage to get that she was on my dirt road but for some reason unable to get to my place. Sean decided to go find her and didn't expect to see what he did. We don't know how but she manage to turn her car onto it's side and flip around in the opposite direction. What's even crazier is it was a straight road, there are no curves or anything, we don't know how she did it.

When Sean got to her she was still seat belted into the driver side and he had to go through her back tailgate to pull her out. She really doesn't remember anything of the accident. She was as bit shaken up, as expected, but she seemed fine. She contacted her insurance and within a few hours the tow truck was there and she went off with them.

Rupert, Jes and Jen crazing the set!!
BTW Sean was able to get the costumes so we could start shooting. The shoot went pretty well, it was hot but breezy and we were shooting outside all day by the hillside. Some of you may know that down the hill from me is a small airport but planes rarely land or take off from there.. well that was until today when come to find out they had an mini airshow and planes flew over every few minutes. I'm sure Leo our audio guy had the worse job today. They did manage to shoot everything before sundown but because of the late start they didn't leave my place until a little after 8pm (12 hour shoot day).

It was a fun shoot even with the planes, I got to read with the cast and that's always fun. I'm no actor but it's still fun to interact with the group.

Jes left around 6:30pm as she had to head back up north to get home by a decent hour for work tomorrow. Jen has been working on my computer all day and so far she hasn't had any success, she is trying one more thing before calling it quits and Rupert just hung out.

Jen, Rupert and I made some dinner and sat down to watch Once Upon a Time. But my bestie Chris (who recorded the show and hour ahead of me) waited and wanted to watch it with me. So once our dinner was done the four of use sat down to watch while Chris and I chatted online during commercials. I miss watching Once with Chris so when he suggested we watch together it made my heart smile. Another fantastic episode of Once Upon A Time, that show continues to impress me and I can't believe we only have two episodes left before season one is over.

Well it was late, a little after 10pm and Jen finally had success at cleaning off the virus on my computer, I still had a few issues but the major fight was won.. thanks Jen. Jen and Rupert headed for home and I went to bed around 10:30pm, watch an episode of the Simpsons before calling it a night.

It was a crazy fun filled Sunday!!! And a FANTASTIC WEEKEND of Friends (who are more like family), Disneyland, Filming and having such an awesome time.
