House Hunting Again

Today Harry and I went to see four houses in Northridge. The first one (Pictured on left and below) we saw was very nice, it was a four bedroom and two bath. It had a decent size living room, a separate dining room and two larger master bedrooms and two smaller bedrooms. The kitchen was fairly small but looked very nice. One very cool feature about this house were the wood ceilings. Not all of the rooms had them but it was a very "country" looking feature which Harry and I really liked. Of course the best part of the house was the lot it was sitting on. Over 8000 square feet and most of it in the backyard. It has so many huge trees in the backyard. Of course it will cost a bit of money to fix up the front and back yard and will need to put in a dishwasher in the kitchen and would like to replace the wood looking lament on all the floors, but everything else was pretty good. We a were already thinking about how we could expand the house and add a much larger kitchen and make the current kitchen part of the living area. But we must move on to house two.

House two (Pictured on Below) was in an okay neighborhood, and the house was in okay shape. It needed a bit of work but we figure for the price that we are paying we would have to do a little fixing up. We still liked the first house but the second one wasn't bad.

Now the third house (Pictured Below) had people living in it. A very sweet older couple and they did quite a bit if renovations on it already. The house was beautiful inside and out. Huge master suite and one of the most beautiful kitchen we had seen. Everything was great with one exception there wasn't much of a back yard. Most of the remodel took up their back yard but still they had one. We were really temped by this one.

Our fourth house (not pictured) was on an okay street but needed alot of work. Looks like they started renovating the house but then stopped. The kitchen was wonderful with granite counter tops and slate floors.. Harry really fell in love with that kitchen but the rest of the house needed alot of work. It did have a nice backyard but not as large as the first house.

So we had two houses that we loved and two that were okay.

After looking at houses with our Realtor Mary. Harry and I went out and drove around Woodland Hills and Granda Hills looking at houses we found online to check out neighborhoods and houses to see if we wanted to pass on the info to our Realtor so she could set up a viewing.

It was pretty much a bust... in Woodland Hills one house was condemned, two were on stilts on hillsides (I refuse to live on stilts) but the third looked okay and will send to our Realtor. As for Granda Hills out of the 15 house we looked at only three were in areas that looked okay. So will send those to our Realtor.

We are now home, tired and very tempted by the first house we saw today. We are going to sleep on it and talk about it tomorrow. The house has been on the market for over 600 days so it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

  1. I was going to say... the first house sounds particularly tempting. I particularly like the idea of the backyard being so gloriously large. And it opens up a lot of opportunity for you and Harry to remodel the kitchen (or build a new one) to your exact desires.

(incidentally, I work for an online retailer that sells home improvement supplies and could help you out with my "friends and family discount" if you end up doing big remodeling)
