Kenobi's 1st Birthday Party

Today was my nephews very first birthday party. Harry and I got there around 12:30ish, got some BBQ and hung out with friends and family. Got to watch Kenobi walk by himself (which he has been doing for a week or so) but this is the first time I got to see it... he's growing up so fast. But I did get to spend some quality Uncle time with him.. which was very nice. We did cake and presents and slowly family started to leave until it was just Mike and Lora's friends and the "party" was beginning so Harry and I left around 4pm, picked up some of our favorite Chiense from Hong Kong and headed home for a relaxing night.

Editing KOTG Podcast

After running around all day I spent the rest of the day assembling two Knights of the Guild podcasts. Most of the editing was done a few days ago I just had to add bumpers and such and do my final pass. I finished Episode 17 part 1 and did everyone for part 2 with exception to the Fan Interview as we haven't done one yet.. so I left a hole that will be easily filled once it's done. Very excited to have both podcasts done and ready to go.. now I just need to build blog pages and upload the podcast and they will be ready for release on June 15th and 29th.

Busy Day

Today was a busy day. First thing we did was go to Harry's dental appointment. He was getting two permanent crowns. They were going to knock him out for a 1/2 hour so I hung out and just waited. When he came out about and hour later he was a little out of it but quickly recovered, it was nothing like the last visit were he was out of it for hours. When we got to Target to get Kenobi's birthday present he was good to go in with me. We then went to my local comic book shop as I have been trying to get The Guild comic issue #3 for the past week.. I was successful!!! After that we headed to Islands for some lunch as Harry hadn't had it in a long time and it's one of our favorite places to eat. After enjoying burgers and cheddar fries we headed home. Harry was felling great and wasn't feeling anything after his dental work.

My Weight Issues

I've never been a skinny person, even as a kid I always had a little belly. I'm short, only 5'4" and have a stocky built. All through high school I weight roughly between 155 and 165, in collage and in my 20's it went up to 165 to 175. I ate horribly and knew that but to counter the poor eating I worked our 3 to 4 times a week so I was able to maintain my weight.

But some where in my 30's life got alot more complicated and busy and working out took a back seat but the bad eating continued. Then a few years ago my doctor put me on testosterone as my levels were extremely low, something that I was completely unaware of. My doctor saw my numbers and asked if I lacked energy or had a low libido. I told him I didn't think so but when I started the testosterone my energy almost tripled, I never knew what "normal" energy was like so I had nothing to compare it too, but man it was nice. There were several side effects to the testosterone treatments. First one is having a higher libido (which really isn't a problem), second is growing more body hair (again not really an issue as I'm not a hairy guy so it was a nice change). But the third one is the most serious one and that is having the appetite of a 16 year old. I am hungry all the time, morning, noon and night. I can eat and a few hours later be hungry. And since my eating habits are horrible to begin with and I'm not working out this is not a combination.

About a year ago I was weighted at the doctors and I found out that I had gone over 200 for the first time in my life.. I was at 204 pounds. I could not believe I allowed myself to go past 200, something I swore I would never do. Well today I just weighted myself and I am now at 212, it's the heaviest I have ever been and I felt sick to my stomach. I asked myself how did this happen... why did I allow this to happen.. and what am I going to do to change this.

I'm going to be 40 this year and if I continue to gain weight it can be a health issue. It's time for a change. Harry and I have been looking at home gyms and as soon as we get back from vacation we plan on buying one for our garage. I think once I start working out and I shed some pounds but of course the bigger issue for me is my diet and appetite. I'm not going to stop the testosterone treatments, but I don't want always be hungry.. I'll need to find a happy medium.

My goal is to be below 200 pounds by the end of the year... that's only 12 pounds but it's going to be a battle.. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress here on my blog.

Knights of the Guild Song

Two wonderful Knights of the Guild listeners Ben Brusell and Kent Elliott commissioned Matthew Gehrett http://www.matthewgehrett.com/ to write and sing a Knights of the Guild theme song.

Ben told me he was working on something but I had no idea it was going to be a song and a FANTASTIC song at that.

I've said it many times.. but The Guild and Knights of the Guild have some pretty cool fans.

Today 7 years ago I went to LAX to meet this Austrian guy that I had been talking to online for the past 3 months. We were hoping the chemistry we had online would translate to chemistry in person.. well after seven years I guess you could say it did.

Happy 7 Year Anniversary on the 1st time we meet in person.

Shrek 4

Today Harry and I went to see Shrek 4 The Final Chapter (or as it says in the title of the movie - Forever After) , this is the 4th installment of the Shrek franchise, not including the Xmas TV special. As with all the other installments I loved the characters, the story and of course the animation. It was funny, witty, sweet, sincere and just plain entertaining. We did see it in 3D and to be honest it's not really necessary and if I knew the tickets were going to be $5 more the for the 3D I would have waited the half hour and saw the 2D version.. but regardless of that it's just a fun movie. Can't wait to buy it on Blu-Ray.

Here's a short synopsis:
A bored and domesticated Shrek pacts with deal-maker Rumpelstiltskin to get back to feeling like a real ogre again, but when he's duped and sent to a twisted version of Far Far Away -- where Rumpelstiltskin is king, ogres are hunted, and he and Fiona have never met -- he sets out to restore his world and reclaim his true love. Now, it's up to Shrek to undo all he's done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.

RIP Rue McClanahan

I'm a huge Golden Girls fan and the past few years we have lost them one at a time. Today one we lost another, Rue McClanahan, died. A fan made this awesome picture and I couldn't help but smile. It's going to be a very sad day when the last Golden Girl passes as she is my favorite.

RIP Rue McClanahan, you will be greatly missed!!

Trucks, Shopping and Movies

Today we had to drop Harry's truck off at the dealer for some recall repairs. We knew it was going to be there all day so I drove down in my Jeep to pick him up. While we were out we decided to go shopping for my nephews birthday gift (as his party is Saturday). I knew I wanted to get him a little red wagon. We headed Target and found the red wagon but they have changed so much since I was a little kid. They now have fold down seats and seat belts and all. I wasn't sure if this was the style they were looking for so I called my sis-in-law and left a message seeing is this was cool. Another thing we had to get was Friends Season 7 & 8, as we have all the other seasons and Harry is on his Friends Marathon where he watches every episode from beginning to end. He finished season six last night so we had to get these so he could continue. We found season eight at Target but had to go do Best Buy to get season seven..we now have the complete 10 seasons of Friend. And while we were there I couldn't resist picking up Big Bang Theory Season 2 for only $19.99

It was now 10:3am so we headed to a Denny's Diner to get some breakfast, breakfast was good but the service wasn't so hot. After Denny's we went to the movies as there are several movies we both wan to see. Today we planned to see Shrek 4 - The Final Chapter. We opted for the 3D version as it was starting first but not realizing the matinee tickets for this were $13 dollars each. I would have preferred to wait a half hour for the regular screening, but it was a fun movie and the 3D was cool (I'll post a separate view). After the movie we were hoping Harry's truck would be done but no luck.. so we headed home for about an hour before the dealer called us up and said the truck was now ready.. so I drove him back down and he picked up his truck. while I stopped by a comic book store looking for The Guild comic #3 (with no luck, they sold out). I grabbed some dinner on my way home and we finished the busy with relaxing in front of the TV hanging out.

Editing KOTG Podcast

Today I spent all day editing my Knights of the Guild podcast Episode 17 parts 1 & 2. Since Harry and I are going on vacation I want to get these done early so all I have to do is post them on June 15 and June 29th.

These needed a fair amount of editing but I did finish both.. now all I have to do is assemble them into podcasts.. I'll do that another day.

Vacation Woes

Today we found out that the RV trailer that we were going to borrow from my sister-in-law is too large and heavy for Harry's truck, though he has a large and powerful truck.. it's just not enough to pull the over 30 foot trailer. So now we have to come up with a plan B. We either rent hotels along the way (keep in mind will have Daisy with us) or we rent a smaller RV/trailer (looks like what will be doing). Of course this will be an unexpected expense but Harry and I have gone on a vacation since 2005 and are really looking forward to this trip.. will make it work one way or another.

Pocasting and More

Today I finished cleaning the house. Jenni came over and we recorded our next podcast Knights of the Guild Ep. 17 parts 1 & 2. Then Harry and I went out and did some more weed pulling (it's a never ending battle). Feeling okay.. no better but no worse then yesterday.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

This will be opening on June 18th (only a few weeks away) but they are having some soft openings and my favorite guys from my favorite Harry Potter podcast Pottercast were lucky enough to go. They posted several videos and if I wasn't excited before, after watching these video I am over the moon excited. This is how much of a Potter fanatic I am, these video brought tears to my eyes.. I can't wait to go.. looking like I'll be planning a four day adventure sometime in August if every pans out.. I'll keep you guys posted.

Happy Birthday Kenobi

Today is my nephew's very first birthday..

Happy Birthday Kenobi..

Uncle Kenny and Harry loves you bunches.

Still Sick

So I'm still not feeling great.. I'm at about 85% so I'm feeling better and better as the days go by but still not 100%. There is so much to do I just wish I could motivate myself to do some of it.. that and not feel sick for sitting up for too long. I did manage to clean up the house a bit. Jenni is coming over tomorrow to record our next podcast and I want the house to look halfway decent. I haven't felt so hot the past week or so.. hope it passes soon... I'm tried of being sick.

Personal Website

You may or may not know but I have a personal website. I've had it for over 10 years. It was on yahoo geocities until that went under and I had to move it. I purchased my own url Geekyfanboy.com and have slowly started rebuilding my site. I have most of the links working but there are still a few like "our house", "vacations", and The Guild that need to be worked on. I say it's a work in progress as it continues to change. It kind of like an out of sight out of mind type of thing. I look forward to finishing it and then only having to update it once in a while. If you want to get to know me a little better then check it out. http://geekyfanboy.com
