A Healthier Me - Day 2
Today's workout was:
30 minutes walk around a new park that I took Daisy to this morning.
30 minutes on the elliptical
3 sets of 10 on the front leg press (35 lbs)
3 sets of 10 on the back leg press (35 lbs)
3 sets of 10 for squats (70 lbs)
10 on left leg and 10 on right leg, not sure what they are called but it worked the back of my legs. (30 lbs)
So far so good.. had to push myself to get out there today but once I was there and got the music going I felt great.
Interviews with Sean
So I've chatted with Kim and Sean about eps 6-9 now I just need to chat with Felicia about those episodes.. I hope to do that this weekend over skype as she is up in Canada shooting episodes of Eureka.
Another CompanionCast
Got up early so I could finish the next Knights of the Guild CompanionCast. The Guild episode came out today and the podcast is suppose to come out tomorrow. Now there is nothing set in stone that says I need to get these out by the next day, other then my promise to fans, and that fact that I can't stand falling behind on any job, paid or not.I worked on the majority of this last night and only had to do my final pass this morning and then all the conversions, uploads and build the webpage... but it's all done and ready to go.

A Healthier Me - Day 1
So here was my first work out.
WEIGHT: 214
WORKOUT:
30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical
3 sets of ten on the chest fly for my chest (60 lbs)
3 sets of ten on the curl arm for my biceps (35 lbs)
3 sets of ten on the free weight (90 lbs)
3 sets of ten for both arms, working on my triceps (30 lbs)
I'm very happy with what I accomplished today. I haven't worked out in over 3 years. Cardio was tough, just five minutes in and I was ready to quit.. but I persisted and struggled the first 15 minutes but after that the last 15 went quickly.
I feel really good right now.. my arms a bit tight but my legs feel fine. I'm sure tomorrow morning I'll be sore but I'm going to do it all over again.. at least the cardio and then work on my legs and stomach, I plan to alternate back and forth between upper and lower body.
That's it for Day 1.. I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

Success!!!
Creating a Podcast
I posted this in my Knights of the Guild blog a few months ago but I have been getting questions about the podcast and how it's produced, Many think we just record it and voila it's up on itunes. That's not the case.... here is my process.I do this for every RegularCast, MiniCast, MircoCast & CompanionCast.
Pre-Production: It's not only recording and distributing the podcast. It's managing and promoting a product. I manage Knights of the Guild's twitter account @knightsofguild, Facebook fan page, WatchtheGuild Group, KOTG forums threads at Treksf, Geekerdome and Anomaly. I maintain the KOTG blog and podbean website. I commission people to create music and logos for KOTG. I manage the donations, mail off autographed pictures, t-shirt and other KOTG Swag, as well as purchase all KOTG swag. I purchase the urls, the websites, podcasting equipments and other operating materials. I do most of this stuff on a daily bases.
Now to the podcasting part:
First thing I do is set up a date to record with Jenni, once we determine that I start creating show outlines for both parts.
This includes having to decide on where our location is going to be. Recording in the studio is the easiest as it doesn't require any sound effects. When I pick a location it requires me to find sound effect for that location, and sometimes it's tough to come up with what kind of SFX you would hear.
I also have to figure out who we are going to interview for our Cast or Crew interview, we alternate back and forth with each episode. I also have to find a fan to interview as well. Once I find these people I have to contact them and set up a time that we are all available and able to record on Skype.
I then determine which segments go where, as our podcast has grown over the years and we have split it into two parts. It's important to me to have both parts balance and entertaining.
I send emails out to cast and crew and notify them of the upcoming podcast and if they wish to get any news out to the fans.
I manage all the contests, create spread sheets so I can pick random winners. Maintaining all the contest is a job unto it's self.
I manage all the listener comments, Sean Questions and Cast questions if we have any. I create word documents with all the questions to make it easier when we record.
I normally get all this done a few days before we record. On record day I started about two hours before Jenni arrives and go over everything again. Make sure the equipment is working correctly. Make sure our interviews are set (if we are doing them that day. Sometimes we do Cast, Crew and Fan interviews beforehand or after we record, just depends on everyones schedule).
Production: When Jenni arrives we go over notes for a few minutes, get comfortable and then we began. It normally takes between 2 to 3 hours to record an episode, both parts 1 & 2.
Post-Production: Once we are done recording the editing process starts. I normally go though the recordings with Audacity (it's what we use to record them) and I'll edit out long pauses, or stuff that isn't to air. I'll also edit out mistakes (especially when I'm reading listener feedback). Editing just 1 part can take up to three or four hour. And then I have to do the same to part 2. Once those are edited I then start Avid to assemble the pieces together to create the podcast.
In avid I have all the bumpers, promos and other podcast elements. I import the edited podcasts along with listener feedback audio and any other audio that is going to be used in the podcast. I start with a vorkism, cut in an opening then cut the edited podcast in. I then go in and cut in all the bumpers between segments. I also cut in promo during the commercial breaks and other elements. Once everything is roughly assembled I do another pass and make sure everything sound smooth. I'll add dissolves or fade in and such to make it sound good. Once that pass is done I do a SFX pass, if we are at a location I go through and add SFX here and there. Once that is done I do one more final pass to make sure I got everything. This editing process take about six to seven hours.
Once I'm happy with it, I export an AVI and import it into Levelator which levels out the audio. I then import the leveled AVI file into Audacity and do a quick check to make sure the levels sound good. Once I'm done with that I export it as an MP3 file. I then import it into Itunes and add the artwork. Now the file is done and ready to be uploaded to podbean. So I start to upload the file to podbean and as I'm doing that I create a blog post with all the show notes and pictures for that episode. This whole process take about three hours.
When a show goes live I have to post the show notes on the KOTG Blog, my personal blog, Twitter, Treks in Scifi Forums, Anomaly Forums, Geekerdome website and forums, Watch the Guild.com Group and the Facebook group.
By the time I get done with both parts I'm already planning the next episode.
MiniCast are normally me solo and are very short they only take a few hours. Depending on the Microcasts those can take 2 to 8 hours to edit and complete. The new CompanionCasts are easier in the sense because it's just me and everything has been recorded already. The hard part is going through all the recordings and finding the right bites for the specific episodes and making sure there are no spoilers for future episodes so these taking longer because I can't make a mistake on them. They can take a few days to edit and complete and I do one of these a week from July to September with each new episode of The Guild.
As you can see it's a big job creating, maintaining and promoting this podcast. I have said in the past that this has become a time consuming hobby. Folks ask me why I do it if I am not getting paid, I tell them I enjoy it, it's fun being part of the Guild family/community and I like spreading the Guildie love around.
Hopefully this gives you a little taste of the behind the scenes making of Knights of the Guild Podcast

Website and Interviews
So that's one step closer to finishing my website. Still have to do my Vacation section and my Guild section, both have several sub sections of there own. I think that's why I keep putting them off. But now I have no choose.. gotta get those done. Once those are done my website will be complete.. of course it will always be a work in progress as I update and add more sections but I'll be a happy camper when I get all this done.. I have been trying to finish this website for the past two year.
At about 1pm I headed out to Guild producer Kim Evey's house. I wanted to interview her for some upcoming KOTG CompanionCasts. While I was trying out there I got a text asking if we could meet a little later at 2:30. I had no problem with that as I was going to go to the post office afterwards but instead I would go before (luckily I did). I had to drop off a bunch of Knights of the Guild prizes and pictures for folks how have won our contests or made donations.
I got to Kim's around 2:40 and as I was walking up to her house I thought I should not only interview her for the CompanionCast but also for a 'crew' interview for our regular podcasts. And for that matter I can interview her husband Greg Benson for a 'crew' interview also as he directed the last half of season 1 along with various other Guildie things.
Kim and I went back into our office and we watched episodes 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 and then we discussed some very cool and interesting info about each episode. After that we did her crew interview, which I found very interesting. Then Greg came out and we did a quick 10 minute interview with him.
Spent about 4 hours there, (hence why I was happy I went to the post office earlier as they are closed now) thought it would be an hour or two but that's how it normally goes. On my way home I stopped by the grocery store to pick up something to make for dinner. Was very proud of myself as I fought the urge to just pick up some fast food as that is the norm.
The rest of the night was pretty uneventful, I tried to motivate myself to get started on CompanionCast S4E5 as it's due on Wednesday but I just couldn't do it.. so I just surfed the net and hung out with Harry.

Perseid Meteor Shower
I've heard about this meteor shower in the past but living in the city there is so much light pollution to see anything. But now that we are in my middle of no where with very little light pollution I decided to check this event out. It was a nice clear night.. so clear that you could see the Milky way. I went out about 11pm and saw about five shooting stars within a half hour. One was the best shooting start I had ever seen. It lasted at least six seconds and went from east to west across the sky. I really thought this one was going to hit the Earth.. must have been really big but it lite up the sky as it burnt out. Went back out about midnight and saw a few more and then again at 1am (they say from 1 to 5 is the best time to watch). I saw about seven shooting stars within 15 minutes. I was too tired to continue and I had seen about 20 meteors. So for my first meteor shower that's not too bad.. next year I should have a Perseid Meteor Shower party.

Update to Website
My Home Gym
Went to Sport Chalet and finally picked up a Home Gym. We had gone last week to look and found this one but I wasn't willing to spend over $1000 for it. But as I got to thinking you can't put a price on health and also spending that much will really motivate me to actually use it. So today I went and picked up a Weider Black Smith Machine along with 300 lbs of weights. Now I just have to build it.. wish me luck!!!

KOTG CompanionCast S4E4
Show Notes: It’s time for our next CompanionCast for Season 4 of The Guild. First of all be sure you watched Episode 4 of season 4. If you haven’t seen it yet watch it HERE
What is a CompanionCast?? It’s a behind the scene look at the current episode of The Guild.
I was on set everyday while they shot Season 4. As actors and crew were finished with scenes I would try and speak to them. Get some inside info about the scene they just shot. I also interviewed Felicia Day and Kim Evey about the storyline and Sean Becker about the directing. Each one of these CompanionCasts will be episode specific and will vary in length depending on how much guildie goodness I was about to gather.
In this CompanionCast I talk about “call sheets”, interview Felicia Day, Sean Becker, and Kim Evey. I also have a crew interview with Scott Meisner.
I hope you enjoy a look behind the scenes of Season 4 Episode 4 “Moving On”

Doctors Visit
Anyways got there in time and actually was seen first by a PA, someone in training. He did the usual physical exam and took down some of my history. Found out that my blood pressure is a bit high 144 / 88, and my triglycerides are higher then they should be.. but my cholesterol is 177 now, it use to be 217 so that's good and all my other numbers were right at the limits. Of course I gained 3 more pounds since my last visit in December... currently at 207 (heaviest I have ever been).
My actual doctor came in the last ten minutes and we chatted about the numbers. Told him that I was going to start working out again, and I'm trying to cut down on my fast food intake and when I see him again in six months I will have lost some weight and better those "right at the limit" numbers.
He also told me to contact him in a month and let him know how it's going (with the weight lose). He said he can prescribe me some medicine that would help with my appetite (suppressing it) or reduce the amount of fat my body would take in from food.. but he wants to see what I can do on my own first.
So over all it was a good visit, nothing was unexpected and now if I wasn't challenged enough I now have to prove to my doctor that I can lose the weight on my own.

Editing Episode 19 pt.1
Today I went through part 1 of Episode 19 of Knights of the Guild podcast and started editing it down. This is the original recording that Jenni and I do. It normally takes me a few hours to cut out all the mistakes and dead air, specially when we read or I should say when I ready listener feedback as I'm not the greatest reader and it takes several takes to get it done right and then of course I have to do more editing. But I did manage to finish editing that piece of audio. Now I just have to assemble the entire podcasts by stringing all the bits together to make a cohesive podcast... I'll save that fun for tomorrow.

Visiting Mom
Mom, Chuck (step-dad) and Grandma. Since we brought Daisy we stayed a bit longer then we normally do. As Daisy is good for about 10 hours alone (potty break). And since it's a two hour drive up to see them and then two hour drive back that leave little time to hang out.
But it's always nice visiting family as I don't get to see them as much as I would like to. Also I got to see my nephew Kenobi twice in one week which is always great as he is growing up so fast. We took to a small beach and he got to experience sand and the ocean for the first time.. he loved both!!!All in all it was a great day.

Recording our Next Podcast
Today Jenni came over and we recorded our next "regular" podcast for Knights of the Guild Ep.19 parts 1 & 2. We do these once a month but it's felt like forever since we did the last one. I've been doing solo Microcasts and CompanionCasts the past month it took me a while before I got into recording with a co-host. But soon enough we were bantering back an forth like we always do. There was a lot of listener feedback that I actually split it up and have it in both podcasts. And with listener feedback come me making mistakes, which in turns means I'll be doing lots of editing. Gotta get part 1 edited and done by August 15th and part two by August 29th.. of course I like getting things done and in the can far before they are due, not that it happens like that all the time. But I currently have 3 Companioncasts and 2 Regularcasts that need editing. Maybe I'll just take an entire day on lock myself in the office and edited everything at once.. will see what happens.. as long as I stay ahead of my release dates.

Podcasts and Home Gyms
So when I got home I checked online and was very surprised at the costs of home gyms.. for a decent one you are looking to spend $1500 to $4000. So I talked it over with Harry and we both agreed since it's for our health and to better our lives it's worth the $1000 to get it.. so we plan on going back this weekend to pick it up. Also spending that much is another motivator to keep me working out.. there is no way I'm spending that kind of money and not using it.
After that I worked on editing my next CompanionCast for Knights of the Guild podcast. New episodes come out every Tuesday and the companioncasts come out the day after.. so I really wanted to get the next one done early. I was hoping to get more then one done but I did manage to complete S4E4, still hope to finish E5, E6 and E7 by the weekend.. but will see how things go.
All in all is was another busy day.

Tron Vintage Figure from SDCC 2010
Prop 8 is no longer... at least for now
Today was a good day for equality. Prop 8 which banned same sex marriages in California was deemed unconstitutional and overturned. They did put a stay on reversing the ban meaning gay couples still can't get married until the appeal process, which can take years .I just don't understand the hate towards gay marriage. How does two loving adults wanting to share their lives together effect straight couples? The churches, especially the Mormon church put millions of dollars into ads saying "think of the children, it will hurt the children", so I ask again how is gay marriage going to hurt the children? It doesn't plan and simple.
I have people say "well California has a really good domestic partnership program that gives you about 90% of what a marriage will give you.. aren't you happy with that?" And I respond with NO.. why should gay people not have the full 100% rights of married straight people.
Then some say that they think it's more of an issue of using the term Marriage.. would it be cool if you used the term Civil Unions. Again I say NO, if straight couple can use the term marriage why can't gay couples? We aren't forcing churches to have to marry gay couples.. if they want to segregate the gay couples out that is fine, but they shouldn't be getting any tax breaks or funding from the State. There are plenty of churches out there that are willing to marry gay couples. And for that matter.. lots of gay couple don't need to be married in a church. The reason most gay couples want to get married are the benefits of being married, taxes, hospital visits, etc...
Gay people getting married will in no way hurt "straight" marriages. We still have a long road ahead of us but hopefully this is a start.
And for those asking Harry and I can't get married even if it was legal because of the DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) which is a Federal law that states a marriage is between a man and a woman and the immigration department is ran be Federal law.. so until that is over turned, which they are working on we can't benefit from any of these marriage laws. :(

Getting Healthy
So now that I'm about to turn 40 I have decided to really dedicate myself in losing the weight and getting back into shape. I know this won't happen over night but I'm in it for the long haul. To start off with I'm going to do my best at eating less crap food, this will be the biggest struggle for me but I'm going to try my best. Second I'm buying a home gym so I can work out everyday. I use to love to work out (loved how it made me feel) and I'm sure I can get back into that routine.
Today I cleaned out our small garage ( we have a 3 car garage, 1 car and a 2 car section) It's now ready for my home gym which I'll be buying in the next few days. We already have an elliptical machine so my cardio is set. Gotta hook up some music or TV so keep my company.
When I start I'm going to keep a daily workout blog and keep everyone updated on my progress. I'm doing this for several reason.. 1 to keep my friends and family up to date and 2 the more important part, to use it as a motivator. Knowing that folks are watching my progress I hope it encourages me when I'm feeling a bit off or not up to working out... I need you guys to help support me during this tough process. Going to be staring on Monday.. stay tuned.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice
While we waited on Harry's truck to be serviced we went to see Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I've heard mixed things about this movie and it hasn't done well at the box office at all.Like with The Last Airbender, after watching it I don't understand why it's not doing better then it is. I really enjoyed this movie. The storyline was interesting, fun and not overly complicated. the special effects were AWESOME, the car chase scenes were cool and the final battle was great. I just don't understand why it's not doing better then it is. Maybe it's a Nic Cage thing... who knows.. all I know is I'll be buying this movie for sure when it comes out on Blu-Ray.

More Yard Work and Podcasts
I also finished another podcast KOTG CompanionCast S4E3 which is due to be released on Wednesday August 4th. Would really like to get up to Episode 6 done by the end of the week. Just hope I have enough material to make some good podcasts.
Size Matters Not
Finally got the autobiography of Warwick Davis; Size Matters Not. This came out a few months ago in England but not in the States (at least I haven't been able to find it). So I went to his website and he was selling them and you could have them personally signed as well, which I did of course. And a few weeks later it arrived. If you don't know who Warwick Davis is, his big roles were Wicket in Star Wars, Willow in Willow and Professor Flitwick in Harry Potter among many other cool movies and tv shows. I've been a big fan of his ever since Willow, for it's one of my all time favorite fantasy movies.
I can't wait to sit down and start reading about his very interesting life.
I Am...
Read this on a Facebook group called "Homosexuality is NOT a choice, but homophobia is."had to share it with you all.
- I am the boy who never finished high school, because I got called a fag every day.
- I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.
- I am the guy that lives on the streets because I am scared to go home.
- I am the prostitute working the streets because I can't find anybody who will hire a transsexual woman.

- I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me.
- I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.
- I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear.
- I am the child that dreams of seeing my mum again. The courts won’t let me because she lives with another woman.

- We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.
- I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman.

- I am the mother that sees my son come home from school every day in tears because the other kids call him a girl.
- I am the celebrity that wishes I could tell the world who I am, but I'm too scared.
- I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.
- I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I didn’t have to always deal with society hating me.
- I am the Youth Worker that sees hundreds of kids thrown out of home because they were honest with their families.
- I am the girl that struggles to get up in the morning because school is so cruel to me.
- I am the footballer scared to come out because I might lose my contract.
- I am the boy that always wanted a Barbie, but no one would let me have one.
- I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most: love.

- I am the boy tied to a fence, beaten to a bloody pulp and left to die because two straight men wanted to “teach me a lesson”.
We are all around you. We are the millions that want the hate to end.

Soulmates
I turned on the News and the show Bones was just finishing up and the leads were having a discussion on Soulmates and Bones quoted where the word Soulmates came from and I always liked the idea of being split in two and having "another" half out there (guess it's the romantic in me) but never knew where it came from so I looked it up.
Got this from Wiki : One story about soulmates, presented by Aristophanes in Plato's Symposium, is that humans originally consisted of four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces, but Zeus feared their power and split them all in half, condemning them to spend their lives searching for the other half to complete them:[Primeval man] could walk upright as men now do, backwards or forwards as he pleased, and he could also roll over and over at a great pace, turning on his four hands and four feet, eight in all, like tumblers going over and over with their legs in the air; this was when he wanted to run fast …Terrible was their might and strength, and the thoughts of their hearts were great, and they made an attack upon the gods ... Doubt reigned in the celestial councils. Should they kill them and annihilate the race with thunderbolts, as they had done the giants, then there would be an end of the sacrifices and worship which men offered to them; but, on the other hand, the gods could not suffer their insolence to be unrestrained. At last, after a good deal of reflection, Zeus discovered a way. He said: 'I have a plan which will humble their pride and improve their manners; men shall continue to exist, but I will cut them in two and then they will be diminished in strength and increased in numbers; this will have the advantage of making them more profitable to us. They shall walk upright on two legs, and if they continue insolent and will not be quiet, I will split them again and they shall hop about on a single leg.'
Yard Work and Podcasts
Started the day with working on some Knights of the Guild business, emails, donations etc... I started to work on several Podcasts (Microcast 20 - Quest for SDCC, CompanionCasts 3,4,5, and 6) but as I started Avid I decided to head outside to get some yard work done. I have been putting it off since I got back from vacation and it really needs to be done. Though I was ready to edit podcasts today a spark of motivation got me outside for the next two hour pulling weeds and trimming trees.
Once I was back in I went and got lunch for Harry and I. Once that was over I sat down to record the intro and outro for Microcast 20. Also did an audio comment on The Temple of Doom for a friends podcast, Treks in Sci Fi.
I finally started to edit Microcast 20 and a few hours later it was done. I started the conversion process, which can take hours so in between processes I went back out several times and did more yard work until it was too dark to see. I did manage to get 2/3's of the yard work done and I will finish it tomorrow for sure. Also I finished Microcast 20 but haven't even started any of the CompanionCasts which bummed me out as I was really hoping to get more of them done by now.. oh well I always have tomorrow where it looks like I'll be doing the same thing.. yard work and podcasting.

Clash of the Titans Review
Both Harry and I wanted to see this movie when it came out this summer but because of vacations and schedules we weren't able to.. so when I read that it was coming out on DVD this week I knew I had to pick it up. Last night with our friend Thomas from Ireland we watched it and again I have to ask, as I did with The Last Airbender, why was there so much negative feedback for this movie. Now I know folks complained about the 3D as this was one of those films that was changed to 3D afterwards but if I did see this in the theater I wouldn't have seen it in 3D anyways.I thought the SFX were cool, the story was the same as the original with a few tweaks and additional characters. The action scenes were fun and entertaining.I really enjoyed the 3 witch scene the make up was awesome, and the Medusa scene was well done. They even had a cameo of my favorite metal owl Bubo. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It was one of those fun entertaining roller coaster popcorn summer movie and I'm glad I got it on Blu-ray so I can watch it again and again in the future.

Vasquez Rocks, Islands and Titans
We took him to Vasquez Rock for a mild hike, then to Islands for some yummy burgers. We got back to our place and I interviewed him for my Knights of the Guild podcast for the fan portion of it. We then had some delicious cupcakes that he bought for us and finally we sat down to watch Clash of the Titan's which I just purchased on Blu-ray.
It was a fun night, we got to know Thomas a little better and we are happy he spent his last "full" day here in LA with us. Safe travels Thomas.. see you soon.

I'm also working on KOTG podcasts as there was an error in one as I moved an entire section to part of 18 but then realized that we talk about going to comic con in that section and since it will be released after comic con I had to go back and cut it out. (not to mention that this podcast was completely done and already uploaded waiting to be released.) I also did one final pass on KOTG Microcast 19 Quest for Bollywood as the The Guild's music video came out at midnight and I'll be releasing the podcast at the some time tonight. I also have to start working on the next companioncast as episode 3 of The Guild will be out next Tuesday.
And if that wasn't enough I have TV I have to caught up on and a ton of yard work. Oh.. and I forgot to mention that I have to figure out what I want to do with my life as I'm not sure I want to go back into the field of Post Production for TV.
I'll keep you all posted.
