Woke up at 5:45am to say goodbye to Chris and Kody. I could have said goodbye last night, but of course I'm me and couldn't do that.. I had to be there to see my best bud one last time as I may not be seeing him until July and comic con. Got to spend 15 minutes with him while he packed up. 6am, I gave him a big hug and said goodbye. I remember the first time I had to say goodbye to him after driving with him up to Montana and helping him get established for several weeks.. I weep and it was very tough. But subsequent visits to Montana and him visiting here in CA there has been no tears. I mean I'm sad that he has to go but I know we have many years of friendship left and that this parting won't be our last. But it's always hard saying goodbye. After they drove away I jumped back into bed for an hour and tried to sleep... with no luck.

Found a very cool "Portal" video that I had not seen before. It was released last year on You Tube and I don't have a clue how I missed it.. but it's pretty EPIC!!!

My internet has been acting up lately but today has been the worse.. it was down for over four hours. Luckily I have my iphone but I'm about to go over my 2g data plan which of course means I'll be paying $10 additional for every 1g used. Luckily it's close to the end of the month so I shouldn't go over to much.

While the net was down I wrote a few blogs offline so I could just copy and paste them when things were back up and running again. I really tried to motivate myself to do some podcasting as I don't need internet for that but atlas no luck. 

I did manage to watch the latest Supernatural episode with Felicia Day. I watched the first two seasons of Supernatural but gave up mid season. I have watched the previous two episodes with Felicia and loved them so I was really looking forward to this one... and I have to say they did not disappoint. This was by far my favorite of the Felicia Day episodes. I was crying by the end. I love Felicia's character Charlie and this episode really fleshed out her character. The hug with Dean was precious.. her saying "I love you" and him saying "I know" ala Star Wars was fantastic.. I love that she ready the Hobbit one last time to her mother before pulling the plug.. so heart wrenching. Felicia gave an amazing performance. I really do hope they make her character a regular or semi-regular next season.. would love to see more Charlie.

Magic Mountain Thrice

Today I went to Magic Mountain for the third time in three weeks. This time I went with my best bud Chris and his friend Kody. Kody is a huge roller coaster fan, since they were in CA Chris told him that they had to go to Magic Mountain for the best roller coasters around. Both guys crashed at my place the night before so we could get up early and head over.

But before we headed to the park we had to stop by one of Chris' favorite places.. Vasquez Rocks. He wanted to show his buddy the famous peaks and climb the tallest one. So we were up at 8am and out the door around 8:30. Got to Vasquez and the guys immediately started to climb the peak. I hung back as I didn't have the correct shoes but I also wanted to get some pictures.

After Vasquez we ran over to Denny's for a quick breakfast before heading to Magic Mountain. They opened at 10:30am and we got there just before 10:30.  The guys already got their tickets (on the Military base, discounted). So we got in line and was in the park in less then 10 minutes.

I wanted to do the most popular rides first since the lines would only get worse as the day went on so we went over to X2, but it was currently closed and I didn't want to waste any time waiting in line not knowing if it would open anytime soon. So we moved on to Tatsu and literally walked onto the ride. Kody is hilarious when he rides a roller coaster.. he giggles like a mad man the entire time... it's pretty awesome. After Tatsu we hit X2 (now open), Viper, Ninja, Superman (I haven't been on this since the changed the direction of the car and reopened it... it was pretty awesome), Jet Streamer (of course I got the wettest) and Apocalypse.

We then had lunch, crowds were very low today and we pretty much walked onto all the rides.. X2 was our longest wait at 40 minutes.. but everything else has been cake.. my goal is to have Kody ride every single Roller Coaster in the park.. so far we are doing pretty well.

After lunch we hit Riddler's Revenge, Tidal Wave (the guys did as I didn't want to get soaked again), Green Lantern First Flight, Batman, Colossus, Scream, Lex Luther's Drop of Doom, Goliath and Revolution. That was every coaster at the park with exception of the kiddy roller coaster and Gold Rush which was shut down when we were near it.

I couldn't believe we did every available coaster at the part and it was only 4:30pm.. still had an hour and a half to kill before the park was closed so we re-rode Kody's favorites. First up was Tatsu again, this time we rode in the very back and I have to say compared to riding in the very front it's a completely different ride in the back.. alot more intense, especially the back loop.. crazy cool.

We were close to Roaring Rapids when we got off Tatsu and Chris was bugging me all day to go on it and I kept refusing (but I knew I would be riding it) as I always get soaked on that ride. So the time came and of course I got hit left and right with waves.. but I have to say poor Kody on the last dip got the worse as a wave came over the raft and drenched him from head to toe.

Afterwards we rode X2 and Superman for a second time. The park was closed but we were passing by Gold Rush and it was still running so we jumped on so Kody could say he rode every roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

It was a bit confusing as the park closed at 6pm but rides were still going and folks were still riding.. come to find out that there was a special event going on and that you had to have a yellow wrist band to ride after 6pm. So we made our way out of the park and back to the car. It was the best day I've had at the park in terms of riding rides. I've never walked onto so many rides or rode so many rides in a single day.

After MM we headed to a local In-n-Out, as the guys wanted to have it since they don't have them in Montana, but the place was packed and Kody has had it before. So we opted to go to one of my favorite burger place Islands. Obviously Chris has been there many times but this was Kody's first.

After dinner we headed back to my place and played a game of Cards Against Humanity with Anthony and Michele. It was a fun game and though Kody was a noob he did really well at figuring out what cards to play for each person.

We called it a night around 10:30pm as both Chris and Kody had to be up at 5:45am to hit the road back to Montana.

To Boldly Go...

Tonight I got to see one of my all time favorite Star Trek The Next Generation two-parter episodes "The Best of Both Worlds" on the big screen. Joining me for this event were my buddies Sebastian and Aaron.

Here's the details..

Special Fathom Features: The Best of Both Worlds – the two-part storyline comprising the third season finale and the fourth season premiere of the beloved series Star Trek: The Next Generation. For the first time ever, it will be seamlessly tied together as one continuous and uninterrupted story digitally restored with new CGI effects… on the big screen! Audiences will also see special clips from “Regeneration: Engaging the Borg”, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of The Best of Both Worlds. There’s a gag reel culled from recently discovered original negatives. As well as a preview of the blu ray for season four.

I was super excited for this they aired two episodes for season one and season two blu ray releases and I missed both of those.. I was not going to miss this one. This was like an actual movie event. Only part one is the season 3 finale and part two opened season 4 so it surprised me that they chose these two episodes to represent the season three blu ray, but I'm glad they did.

As I mentioned the previous two times the event didn't sell out and I heard there were plenty of seats left so I didn't bother to get a ticket, but earlier today I saw on twitter that the theater I had planned to see it at were sold out (AMC Universal Citywalk) I quickly went to plan B (AMC Burbank) and purchased a ticket. I noticed that they had two showings listed at the same time. Come to find out that they sold out as well but were able to play it in another theater and I managed to get a ticket for that one. Now the second theater was about half the size of the first one and the screen was about 2/3'rds the size of the larger room.. but you know what it's much bigger then my TV at home so I was happy. It was also nice being in the overflow room because it wasn't packed, but it was pretty close.

So they started the night off with the very cool behind the scenes of Best of Both Worlds called Regeneration: Engaging the Borg. I assume this will be on the blu ray as well.. it was fun hearing folks remembering shooting these two episodes and knowing then how important they would become. It was nice to hear how the Borg came into being and the over all experience working on the show.

Next were the two episodes.. they were completely remastered and looked amazing, the sound was also perfect it was a fantastic experience. The only thing was the end of the first episode. I mean it ends was a loud swelling of music, black screen and the words "To Be Continued" well now they blended the two episodes seamlessly together and it was awesome but I must admit I miss the black screen after Riker says "FIRE". I think I missed it because that is how I've watched it for years.

When the episodes were over everyone applauded.. it was pretty epic.

They then shared the recently found gag reel and I have to say OMG that was one of the funniest gag reels I've ever seen and I really hope it shows up on the blu ray as well.

Afterward they played the final promo which was for the upcoming blu ray for Season Four.

Now that I have been to one of these events I hope they continue to have these for each of their season blu ray releases. 

It was an awesome night to be a Trekkie!!!

Knights of the Guild #49

Finally motivated myself to get another Knights of the Guild podcast edited and released... woohoo. I also announce the end of the podcast... well kind of. I don't have a specific date but the podcast is coming to an end. I have a handful of interviews left for season six. Once those are done I plan on doing a big "goodbye" episode. It's Slayer Time

Our weekly Buffy Rewatch/1st Time started a bit earlier then previous viewing, but in the end it didn't matter as work things popped up for Robert that paused our viewing so in the end we watched our regular four episodes tonight.

First up was Season 5, Ep 11 "Triangle" The two most important women in Xander's life: his girlfriend Anya and his best friend Willow, jealously squabble and bicker. However, the escalating aggression between them causes them to accidentally summon Olaf the troll, who wreaks havoc throughout Sunnydale, forcing Willow and Anya to work together to stop him.

This was a good episode.. kind of a stand alone episode as it really didn't have anything to do with the current "Glory" storyline. But it was fun to watch.

Next was Season 5, Ep 12 "Checkpoint" The Watchers Council comes to Sunnydale to tell Buffy what they know about Glory, on condition that she proves herself worthy. She refuses to go through their tests, and they tell her Glory is a god.

This is a favorite of mine.. I hate the watcher council and when they were giving demands to Buffy and Giles I turned to Robert and said, why are these guys still together.. I mean Buffy quit a year ago and until Faith is dead there won't be another Slayer for them to assist. So when Buffy comes to the realization and says the exact same thing I thought to myself... right on!!! I love that Buffy got the upper hand on the council. I like that she has rejoined them and that Giles is a watcher again.. best part was we find out the Glory is a God... now how is Buffy going to defeat this big bad?

Third episode of the night Season 5, Ep 13 "Blood Ties" Dawn makes a profound discovery about herself and her origin. Ben is revealed to share a body with Glory.

Again one of my favorites as it was all about Dawn and Glory. Dawn finds out that she is the key and has a total meltdown (to be expected). We also find out that the mysterious Ben is actually "family" to Glory, the two of them share the same body. Dawn is almost caught by Glory when she confesses what she is to Ben.  And Willow preforms a "teleportation" spell on Glory and the spell almost kills her. The first sign of Willow's true magic powers.... good stuff

And our final episode of the evening is Season 5, Ep 14 "Crush" Drusilla returns to Sunnydale and walks back into Spike's life, causing Spike to re-examine his relationships with the three women in his life: Drusilla, Harmony, and Buffy.

Not much Glory stuff in this one but alot happens. Spike's crush on Buffy is revealed to Buffy's dismay. Dru is back and crazier then ever and you think Spike is turning evil again but nope his love for Buffy is stronger. Lot's of great Spike moments.

We are now just past the halfway mark.. so may great episodes to come before the huge season five finale... oh I can't wait.

San Diego Zoo

Woke up around 7:30am, Nicki was already up and ready so I jumped in the shower and ate a little breakfast. We headed over to the San Diego Zoo around 8:30 and got there just before 9am. We were to meet up with Chris and Kody at 9. Nicki and I sat out front and chatted for bit. Nicki and I never seem to be at a lose of things to talk about.. I love that about her.

The guys showed up around 9:30, we got to meet Kody. He's one of Chris' friends/co-worker in the Military out in Montana. He drove down with Chris for the military seminar. Nicki got me into the park for free and both Chris and Kody got in free because they are military ( I think it's cool that the San Diego Zoo let's military people in for free).  Now I haven't been to the SD Zoo in over 30 years so I was looking forward to this. Nicki comes all the time so she played tour guide. We had a few other folks who planned to join us later.

We walked around checking out the Giraffes, Kangaroos, Rhinos, Elephants, Llamas, Camels, Pandas, Hippos, Tigers, Flamingos and then Tortoises. 

Our friend Ruben showed up and joined the party. We went and grabbed a bite to eat and then Rachelle and Anne joined us. We walked around a bit checking out other animals and then jumped on the sky tram thingy that takes you to the other side of the park. We checked out the kids section and a few more animals that we missed in our first go round.

By 4pm we were tired and my back and ready to call it a day. It was a lot of fun and it was great having Rachelle, Anne and Nicki as our tour guides. 

Chris and Cody were heading to a baseball game, Ruben was heading back to the Zoo to see the stuff he missed. Rachelle and Anne were heading back to her place so I caught a ride back with Nicki. Once back at her place I didn't want to get on the road as traffic would be horrific so I hung out with her and eventually Anne before leaving their place around 6:30pm.

Jumped on the road and went about forty or so miles outside of SD before stopping for dinner. Traffic wasn't that bad and I made it home by 10pm. I was exhausted from the drive and from walking around the Zoo all day. But it was totally worth it as I got to hang out with a bunch of good friends and made a new one with Kody.. but my favorite part of course was getting to hang with my best bud Chris.

Who, Trek and More

I watched the latest episode of Doctor Who called "Hide". I really enjoyed this episode. This new season has kind of been lackluster for me. Not that they haven't been good Who episodes.. I mean any Who is good Who but there hasn't been an episode were when it was finished I thought to myself.. wow that was great. But tonight's episode changed all that. Here's a brief synopsis: Clara and the Doctor arrive at Caliburn House, a haunted mansion sat alone on a desolate moor. Within its walls, a ghost hunting Professor and a gifted psychic are searching for the Witch of the Well. Her apparition appears throughout the history of the building, but is she really a ghost? And what is chasing her?

This was a very creepy and spooky episode. What you think is a cool ghost story turns into something completely different (I won't spoil it). One thing I really loved about this episode is that I couldn't predict what was going to happen next. Every twist and turn was a surprise to me, even in the last few minutes.. I didn't have a clue what was going to happen.... loved that. Got a bit more into the whole "who is Clara" storyline which is my favorite of this season. I hope this upswing continues in the next episode.

Today a scene from the upcoming Star Trek movie Star Trek Into Darkness was released. If you know me you know I'm a huge Star Trek fan. I very much enjoyed the new incarnation of Trek but it's defiantly not my Trek of old... but it's still great in it's own right so I'm looking forward to this movie but this scene really got me excited and I can't wait for May 17th. During the evening I got my oil changed on my new car.. first time ever.. I've already hit 5000 miles and it's only been a few months. 

I had dinner with a good friend of mine Christopher. We met up in Burbank at Zanku Chicken. I rarely eat there so when I do it's a real treat. It was great hanging out with Christopher and catching up on each other lives. We use to hang out all the time but life and work has kind of gotten in the way, but we do try and see each other as much as possible. 

After dinner I drove down to San Diego to crash at my friends Nicki and Anne's place. My best bud Chris was down here visiting for a business trip and we planned to hang out tomorrow at the Zoo. 

Beach, Buddies and Buffy

Today I spent 12 and a half hours with one of my favorite people on the planet... Robert. First thing was breakfast.. I drove to Robert's place down in the Santa Monica area, we went to a local IHop. This had to be the smallest IHop I have ever seen but it was also the busiest... it was pretty crazy but also very tasty. First up on today's agenda was to visit a beach. I wanted to take Robert to a cool and very secluded beach that I've been to a few times. I thought it was Leo Carrillo state park in Malibu, but as we were driving a saw a sign for El Matador State Park and I had been to that one as well so it may be the one I was thinking about. About an mile down we came to Leo Carrillo beach and I realized that it was El Matador that I wanted to take him to so we turned around and headed back. Unfortunately we couldn't find a parking spot. I had thought I saw a sign about a half mile away for a second parking lot but when we got there I found out that it was for La Piedra State Beach. We figured what the heck, there was parking and if worse comes to worse it was only about a half mile from El Matador and we could walk there. We found our way down to the beach with the help of a fellow beach goer.

It was quite a hike down but there were stairs embedded in the side of the hill until you got to the last five or so feet where it was just boulders that you have to climb down. We got to the beach and it was very secluded. When we got there there was only two other groups on the beach with us. There weren't as many rock formations as El Matador state beach but it was a nice area.

It was still very foggy and we were hoping that it would burn off fairly soon. It was warm outside, even with the fog but it was cold to go into the water. After several tries we found a spot that with the least amount of bugs (it was fun watching Robert battle it out with ants and gnats).

We chatted, laughed and just laid in what sun there was for over an hour and a half. The fog did lift for a bit and then would return. It got super hot and then warm again. The important thing was that we had a nice time hanging out at the beach. Afterwards we headed back to his place so I could shower and get all the sand off me.

Second thing on today's agenda was to go see a movie. We were trying to decided between Oz, Oblivion, Evil Dead or GI Joe Retaliation. In the end we decided on GI Joe Retaliation. We drove to Century City AMC and picked up our tickets. I was a bit hungry so we went to the food court and I got some Panda Express while Robert grabbed a snack. We still had about 45 minutes before our movie started so we walked around the mall for a bit before heading to the theater and taking our seats.

I know some folks bad mouth the first GI Joe movie but I actually enjoyed it. It was a fun action packed ride and I was expecting the same from GI Joe Retaliation. And guess what.. it was exactly what I was expecting.. a fun action packed roller coaster of a ride experience. I am a huge Dwayne Johnson (the Rock) fan so it was great seeing him take the lead in this movie. I loved some of the camera work as they would go fast then slow mo and zoom in, then zoom out and speed up again. The action scenes were amazing. The story was good and defiantly sets it up for a third movie. I got what I paid for and very entertaining two hours. I give GI Joe Retaliation a solid B

While we were at the mall the topic of Ferngully came up and the fact that I have never seen it. It's always been on my list of "must see" movies but I just never got a round to actually watching it. Well Robert was shocked and said if it was on streaming that when we got back to his place we would watch it.

But before we got back to his place we picked up some Taco Bell for dinner. Once at his place we found out that Netflix did have Ferngully on streaming so we started it. Over the years I have heard so many great things about this movie so I was expecting big things. After watching it, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed in it. The "hit you over your head" story didn't bother me, but that was really the only story. The 80's rock music was a bit eh and I had no idea that it was a musical (but I should have guessed). It bothered me that when the fairies flew they didn't flap their wings. I know I'm being petty and I know that this is a well loved movie from alot of people's childhood and maybe I would feel differently if I had seen it as a child but it doesn't hold up over time (at least in my opinion). I was expecting this awesome fantasy movie and all I got was a PSA for the deforesting of our rain forests. I wanted to love it, I really did, but I couldn't. I give the movie a C.

We still had a few hours left in the day so Robert and I continued our Buffy Rewatch/First Time. We are in the middle of Season Five. First up was "Listening to Fear"   Ben summons an extraterrestrial Queller demon in order to "remove" the large number of mentally ill people that Glory has created. However, a side effect of Joyce's illness puts her in the Queller's sights.

Not a favorite of mine for season five but it does expose Ben's roll somewhat.. we now know his is involved with Glory somehow. The bulk of the story was about Joyce and her illness and Buffy finally breaking down from all that is happening.

Our second episode of the night was "Into the Woods" Riley is invited to join a new Initiative-like organization which would require him to leave Sunnydale. He gives Buffy an ultimatum: Give him a reason to stay or he will be gone from her life forever.

I enjoyed this episode more then the previous one. Joyce questions Buffy about Dawn not being her daughter and Buffy tells the truth that she is not. But Joyce reinforces that they need to protect her at all costs. But the big thing that happens in this episode is the break up of Riley and Buffy.  Had some great Spike moments but the best scene was when Xander talks to Buffy about her love for Riley and realizes his love for Anya. He makes Buffy realize that she truly loves Riley but of course she is too late to tell him this as he flies away in a helicopter never see her again.. such a heart wrenching moment.

I was a fantastic day spent with my best friend. Robert and I are like two peas in a pod. And we realized today that we've actually only known each other for just over a year... though it feels like he's been part of my life forever.... and he will always be part of my life... forever.

Magic Mountain Again!!!

So my friend Jessica messaged me last night around 8pm and asked if I wanted to go to Magic Mountain tomorrow to celebrate her birthday. I had tentative plans with my buddy Robert so I contacted him and we arranged to hang out on Sunday freeing me up for Saturday.

Besides seeing Jessica again.. a plus was that Courtney and Jesse were going as well... yay!!! So I met up with those three at 10am and the place was packed. I was especially looking forward to hanging out with my pseudo-son Jesse.

We got into the park and Jessica mentioned she wanted to do Colossus, when we got to the ride there was no line... we walked right on.  Afterward we walked onto Scream and then back again to Colossus for a second time.

We then stopped for a drink and we all got the refillable souvenir cups. Afterwards we headed over to Green Lantern's light as the line, which is normally at least an hour or more was barely 10 minutes.

Next it was time for Goliath, which we all love. The line for this was a bit longer.. about an hour but we got Courtney to ride it this time around as she didn't ride it last time. She loved it...

After Goliath we grabbed some pizza for lunch and then Jesse and I went on the new Lex Luther ride. You sit on the outside of the Superman ride in a chair and you are taken up 400 feet and then free fall. The fall is actually not that bad.. it's the being strapped into a chair and carried up, up and more up until you are so high you can see all of Valencia. What makes it worse is it's very windy up there so the ride sways and then you just sit there not sure when the car will drop. Jesse and I loved it and I'll be doing it again on my next visit.

We went and did Batman next, which we waited like five minutes for the first car and our final ride of the day was The Riddler, once again we rode in the front. This line took about 30 minutes or so but from the crowds to get in and the fact that it was a Saturday the crowds and lines were not bad at all. Of course we didn't go on X or Tatsu which are very popular rides but we rode some awesome rides.

Jessica, Courtney and Jesse were only staying until 5pm as they had plans in the evening. So after The Riddler it was round 4:30 and we were all very tired and heat exhausted. So we called it a day a little ahead of schedule. It was another fun filled trip to Magic Mountain with some awesome people.. Happy Birthday Jessica!!!

Highlight for me was hanging with Jesse... we joked around while in line like last week. When we get together we act like siblings.. hitting each other and trying to cause the other to run into people. Sometimes I think I'm more of a kid then he is.

Jesse was wearing a button down long sleeve shirt and it was in the 90's so we tried to find him a tank top to wear but we couldn't find anything in his size. He kept pulling up his sleeves to try and relieve some of the heat and I kept offering to roll them up property so they wouldn't keep falling down. He kept denying my help, until finally I just did it anyways as he protested jokenly saying "Dad stop it.. Dad you're embarrassing me" Just then Jessica and Courtney came walking out of the bathroom and he said to them "He's more of a father to me then my real father". It really made my heart smile to hear that.

I don't know what it is about this kid but he has my heart, I want to take care of him, make sure he knows he is awesome and loved. I may treat him a bit younger then he is... I got to keep telling myself he is 13 and a young man.. he's not a little kid... but it's tough as my fatherly instinct take over.  For whatever the reason is he and I just get along and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Can't wait for another adventure to Six Flags Magic Mountain with Jessica, Courtney and Jesse.

Visting my Dad

When I visit family it's kind of like an all day thing. My family lives about 2 hours away from me. I normally get up, eat breakfast, check my emails, surf online and about 10am I take a shower and get ready to head out. I normally leave my house around 11/11:30 and get to brother's place around 1/1:30. I go out to lunch with my Dad and then visit the rest of the family, Brother, Sister-in-law, nephew and niece for about four or five hours then I head home for another two hour commute and by the time I'm home it's about 8pm and I eat some dinner, watch some TV and then go to bed.

Today I was visiting my Dad only. My brother and his family went to Vegas for a wedding. My dad was going to be by himself all day so I figured I'd go and hang out with him for a bit. I try and visit him as much as possible, my Dad has had two battles with cancer, several stokes and several heart attacks.. but he is still with us. I think his grand kids are keeping him alive, he loves them so much and vis verse. So I try and go down to visit every two to three weeks. It was a good visit.. we went out to my favorite Chinese restaurant Hong Kong for lunch. After lunch we headed back to my brothers place and hung out for a bit. He got a new Kindle Fire for Xmas last year and he loves it so I was showing him various options and apps he could use. Left his place around 4, got home around 6, ate some dinner and watched some TV before calling it night.

Superman & Defiance

First of all I want to wish my favorite superhero of all time Superman a very Happy 75th Birthday. I've loved him ever since my childhood watching the old B&W TV series with George Reeves, then the 1978 movie was released with Christopher Reeves, I was eight years old and couldn't get enough of the man of steel. I started collecting comic books, toys and anything else with the Superman logo. Star Wars and Superman were my two big loves as a kid. And after all these years I still love him and I can't wait for the next incarnation of the Man of Steel to be released in theaters this summer... the previews look amazing. Here's the latest trailer..

Today I planned to try and get some stuff done around the house. I'm still in the process of fixing up my house so I can get it on the market. There is just so much stuff to do that I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed the past few weeks so I end up doing nothing because I don't know where to start. Besides the fixing up of my house to get on the market, I have several podcasts that are due to be released this month, I'm in the middle of writing my first web-series, I'm preparing to start a new D&D campaign, I'm trying to expand my production company, I'm trying to keep up with the latest TV, I'm trying hang out as much as possible with friends and family.  And the most important thing, I need to find a job!!! 

But even with all that stuff to do it's a daily struggle to not just sit on my computer and play LOTRO or surf the net or watch TV all day. There are days I succeed on doing something and there are days when I don't. I hate the feeling at the end of the day when I realized that I didn't get a single thing done. I feel like since I'm out of work I should be getting all this stuff done... I mean once I have a job my time will be even less available. I don't know what it is.. not doing anything makes you even more lazy. I need to break to lazy cycle.

I did manage to get out to the garage today and started going through some boxes.. I realize that I have a ton of crap. I tried just throwing things away but it's tough especially when it's in good shape. I thought about trying to sell some stuff but that's just more work for me to do, I could give it away to friends who need it or to the goodwill but it's hard for me to part with things that I may one day need.  The cleaning of the garage only lasted an hour before I got frustrated with my lack of throwing things away. Also with Anthony and Michele's stuff in my garage there is little room to really make piles and get organized. So I may wait until they leave in May to do the garage.

I turned to TV to relax, I been looking forward to watching Syfy's new TV series Defiance. So Anthony and I watched the 2 hour pilot episode. It's a complicated back story which they haven't explained yet but eight races of alien come to Earth to settle as their solar system was destroyed. They terraformed Earth and changed everything. It's about a small town called Defiance and it's people trying to survive and rebuild this new world.

This is a Syfy experiment as they released a MMO game and the TV series at the same time. Both are connected but also separate so you can do both, or one or the other. 

I enjoyed the pilot... I think they did a good job at developing the characters... the back story on the other hand .. not so much. I checked out Wiki and there is so much back story that was not conveyed in the pilot. I assume as the series goes will learn more but the pilot did it's job.. it made me excited to see the next episode. I look forward to seeing where this series goes.

Buffy, Buffy and More Buffy

After creating my D&D character (read previous blog), I jumped online and played a few hours of Lord of the Rings Online with my buddy Chris. They are giving double XP during it's 6th anniversary so I'm trying to level up as many of my characters as I can. Afterwards I headed into town...

This has become a kind of Wednesday thing... Buffy and Bros with my bestie Robert. Tonight we ordered some pizza and wings and sat down to watch more episodes of Season Five of Buffy. First up was "No Place Like Home"  Buffy Summers looks for a mystical source behind her mother's illness, but finds out more than she bargained for.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the entire Buffy universe. This is where we, the audience, as well as Buffy finds out about her sister Dawn. It's heart wrenching to watch as Buffy thinks Dawn is the cause of her mother's illness but then finds out that Dawn is an innocent sent to Buffy for protection. Some of the best interaction between Buffy and Dawn happens in this episode. This episode makes me cry every time and I couldn't wait to share it with Robert.

Next up was "Family" Tara’s family, the Maclays, make a surprise visit to Sunnydale, and she does not seem eager to see them. She casts a spell on her friends to prevent them from seeing demons, inadvertently putting them in danger when Glory sends a group of Lei-Ach Demons after Buffy at the same time.

Another favorite episode of mine as I'm a huge Tara fan and this goes into Tara's back story a bit and explains why she is the way she is. This is also the turning point to when Tara official becomes part of the Scooby clan.. I love how the gang stands up for her.. it's pretty fantastic.

Our third episode of the evening was "Fool for Love" After a common vampire nearly kills her with her own stake, Buffy, in an attempt to learn and prevent similar mistakes, turns to Spike to learn how other Slayers met their end.

This is why I love season five so much... another fantastic episode.. this time we get Spike back story, which I knew Robert would like since Spike is one of his favorites. It was great seeing other slayers and a once love lorn kind hearted version of Spike. We also find out where he got the name William the Bloody (and it's not what you think).

Our final episode of the evening was "Shadow" Joyce has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Buffy is worried about her mother's diagnosis and Dawn's ability to handle the bad news. Glory visits Giles new magic shop and purchases two items that are essential to summoning an evil snake. Riley also feels left out of Buffy's world, and permits a vampire named Sandy to bite him.

Of the four episodes we watched tonight this was my least favorite, though I still enjoyed it.. but compared the other three.. this was more of a filler episode to progresses the storyline along,. which it did nicely. I love Glory, she's my favorite Big Bad so it was fun watching her in this episode. It wasn't the strongest way to end the night but it sure was a good night of Buffy episodes...can't wait for more.

My D&D Character - Dashel Greenbottle

My buddy Dallas is starting up a new campaign for a Pathfinder D&D game.. Now I haven't played D&D since fifth grade, though I did do a lot of RPG kind of writing in my 20's. Today I spent a few hours coming up with back story for my new D&D character. I have chosen to play a Wizard Halfling. If you know me at all, you know I'm a Hobbit lover.

First of all I found this drawing of a Wizard Halfling online, I couldn't find who drew it but I altered it a bit as halflings in this world don't have pointed ears so I had to round them in photoshop.

So this is what my character looks like.

Jillian and Milo were born and raised in the small farming community known as The Downs just outside Galanor. Both the Greenbottle's and Brushgather's were prominent halfling families in their little community. Jillian and Milo were the eldest of the family and at a very young age were betrothed to each other. Fortunately the pairing worked out and they fell in love.

Dashel (or Dash for short) was their first born, his raven color hair and grayish black eyes made him a source of gossip around the community. But his mother and father doted on him and tried to protect him from prying eyes but they soon realized that their child would never be treated properly if they stayed in The Downs.

When Dash was two years old and Jillian was pregnant with their second child. Milo packed up his family and moved to Elendrinoin. Elendrinion was a vast city and they hoped that Dash would be able to blend in better and not be ridiculed for his unusual look.

Their life in Elendrinoin flourished, Milo worked in the fields while Jillian became a seamstress. Soon after the move Wellby was born followed Portia, Cora, Cade, Garret, Lavinia and finally the baby Samuel. None of their other children had any abnormalities and were perfect little halflings.

Though his family didn't treat Dash any different, he knew deep down that he wasn't like his siblings and the lead to him secluding himself from the family and the public.

Dash found solace in the Wizarding school. Dash got his love of reading and studying from his parents, they were always reading or telling him stories from their history. Celumin Sinestra (School of the Left Hand Path, in the common tongue) had the largest library in Elendrinoin and Dash spent many, many hours their as a kid reading and learning as much as he could.

An Elf named Silvhanan noticed this young odd looking halfling hanging around the library and kind of took him under his wing and began to teach him about magic, Dash was 7 years old when this began. Over the next few years Silvhanan was impressed at how Dash took to magic.  He told the young halfling that he should officially enroll in school and travel down the path to become a magic wielder. 

Dash was trilled with the prospect of becoming a wizard but knew it wasn't going to be an easy path. Halfling weren't normally known for wielding magic but then again Dash was not your average halfling. When Dash told his family his plans they were a bit hesitant, but told him that he had their love and support.

At the age of 10 Dash became a fulltime student. He studied day and night. He sacrificed having a childhood, friends and rarely saw his family. His entire life revolved around magic. When he was 12 he preformed a spell on himself trying to change his hair and eye color. He was tired of all the stares and comments behind his back, he just wanted to be normal. Unfortunately the spell didn't go as planned and turned his hair bright white and eyes to a piercing emerald green. He decided right then and there to accept the way he looked. He would no longer try to perform magic on himself again.

Besides Silvhanan, Dash had one other friend, an Elf named Trix, he didn't know much about Trix's past all he knew is that Trix was always in the library when he would visit and that he knew were everything was. So whenever Dash needed to find a book all he had to do was find Trix.

As the years passed by Dash excelled in his studies but became more and more of a recluse from society. He rarely visited his family and when he did it was only for a short amount of time.

Dash completed his studies and is now only the third halfling to ever be given the title of Wizard at Celumin Sinestra.

Hanging with my Bestie.. Kind of

Spent the morning cleaning up around the house, checking emails, looking at job listings, watching a bit of recorded TV.

The bulk of my day was spent with my bestie Chris. No he's not out here visiting, he's still in Montana and I'm still in California but we did watch a few shows together and then played some LOTRO.

We first started with the latest Doctor Who episode "Cold War". I was annoyed at the beginning of this episode.and I couldn't really tell you why.. but it kind of tainted the episode for me. It did get better as it went but still I haven't really been wow'd by the past few episodes. I really want to learn more about the new companion and why the Doctor keeps running into re-incarnated version of her.

The next thing we watched was the latest Once Upon a Time episode, well come to find out that it wasn't an episode but a very cool and very detailed recap of season one and what has happen so far on season two. After watching it I realized how well the over all story has been put together. This show is so amazing and is by far one of my favorite TV series in quite some time. I can't wait for the remaining three episodes of this season.

Afterwards we jumped on Lord of the Rings Online. They are celebrating their 6th anniversary so there are fireworks and festivals happening in game so Chris and I joined in. It was fun running around setting off fireworks and collecting invitations. In Dwarf land they had this fun "beer" fights where you would take mallets and knock other characters around the room. We played for about five or six hours before calling it a night we were both getting hungry and had to get some dinner.

Spent the remaining few hours watching some TV.

A Visit From Lydia

Today I finally finished my next MASH podcast which I started last week. Took a few hours but I think it turned out pretty good. This one will be released on May 1st.

The big plan for today was hanging out with my friend Lydia who is visiting from Switzerland. She arrived around 11 and we sat around and chatted for an hour or so before heading out for some lunch. I was going to introduce her to Outback Steakhouse, but forgot that the one out in Palmdale is only open during dinner hours so we went next door to El Torito (which happen to be her first time as well). Had a really good talk with her about where we were in our lives. I got to talk to her about wanting to be a father as she is a mother of two.

Afterwards we went back to my place and watched some of my screeners. First was ParaNorman, which neither of us had seen. I liked the animation as it was all stop animation but the story was just okay. It's not a movie I need to watch over and over. But out second movie is one of my favorites from last year.. Cloud Atlas. I've seen this movie four or fives times already and I love it more each time I watched it. Lydia had never seen it but her daughter loved it and told her she had to see it.

Now it's always tough watching this movie with friends as it's not a very easy movie to follow and it's hard to judge if the person is liking it or not. I was a bit worried that Lydia might not understand some of the speech of the future future scenes as English isn't her first language and when I saw it for the first time I had hard time understanding what they were saying and English is my first language.

But when the movie ended, I turned to her and asked what she thought.. and she loved it and couldn't wait to watch it again. This made me happy. This movie unfortunately bombed at the theater and I'm hoping it finds new life on DVD/Bluray... btw it comes out on May 14th.. so be sure to buy it.

It was around 7:30pm now and time for dinner. Lydia mentioned earlier when we were trying to figure out where to go for lunch that she had never done In-n-Out Burger.. so guess where we went for dinner. I don't eat In-n-Out that often, it was so hyped up to me that when I finally had for the first time in my 20's it was just an eh kind of experience. But tonight I realized that the burgers do have their own unique taste, same with the fries. I think both Lydia and I agreed.. they are pretty good but not the best burgers in the world.

It was around 8:30pm and we said out goodbyes in the parking lot of In-n-Out. It's always great getting to hangout with her and sharing a bunch of firsts with her (El Torito, ParaNorman, Cloud Atlas and In-n-Out). I can't wait to see her again at SDCC in July.

Fatherhood

I mentioned in my previous blog post that I got to meet a young man named Jesse, he's 13 years old and we hit it off instantly. I've always felt that I got along with kids and young people but I've never bonded with someone so quickly. I've been a "Big Brother" of America and I never bonded with my "little brothers" like I did with Jesse.

As many of you know, if you read my blog posts, that I have kind of given up on being a father myself and to enjoy being an uncle (which I love). But this kid stirred up emotions and feelings that I have pushed deep down for many years.. I want to be a Dad, I was born to be a Dad, I need to be a Dad. Spending time with Jesse and our interaction made me realize what I am missing in my life. It's not a partner, it's a child of my own. I need someone to love and care for. To pass on my experiences and knowledge and help mold them into a great human being.

I'm not going into great details as it's Jesse's personal information but we got to talking about family and he doesn't have the best family life or support system. After only a few hours of hanging out I told him that I'd like to be his big brother and be that stability that he lacks in his life. Towards the end of the day he mentioned that he wanted to come live with me and there was talk of adoption. I have to be honest if it was that easy I would have done it right then and there.  Jesse is a great young man and I'd be very proud to call him my son. But of course life isn't that easy, so for now we exchanged numbers and plan on hanging out from time to time. I just want him to know that he is loved and appreciated, and what an incredible person he is. I will give him as much love and support that is needed... who know what the futures holds.

But he did open my eyes to adopting, I've always wanted a biological child but I knew being gay would make things more difficult. I've always been open to adoption. What Jesse did was open my eyes to adopting a child/teenager and not a baby. Not only that but the fact that I can be a single parent. I don't have to wait for a partner I have it in me to be both parents.

For many years now I have wanted to adopt older kids, 16 and 17 year old's because when they hit 18 they are kicked out of the system. Those that don't have a home have a very bleak future. I want to adopt those older kids so they have a place to call home, a place they can always return to. Everyone deserves to have that feeling of belonging and to be loved.

So I have determined that I'm going to take the next year to really get my life in order, to find a stable job (even if it's not in the entertainment industry), to sell this house and to reorganize and maybe even sell some of my "things" (yes I'm talking about my toy collection). I've been heading down this road at a much slower rate but meeting Jesse has sparked that love of being a dad, it's motivated me to move things along at a faster pace. I know it's going to be tough but I really want this.. I think this is the next stage of my life... FATHERHOOD

Magic Mountain

Little did I know that my life would be changed by the end of this day.. but that's for my next blog. This one is all about my visit to Magic Mountain.

Got up at 8am, took a shower as Robert put in his eyes and brush his braces for 20 minutes :) .We headed out to get some breakfast at Denny's. We were both really hungry so Denny's breakfast really hit the spot. We made our way to Magic Mountain. I had planned a meet up at 10am but we got there a few minutes afterwards. The others who were joining us were already there in the line to get their season pass. I came earlier in the week and took care of that and I'm so happy I did as it was packed and the line was super long. Luckily for us our friends were early and were almost to the front.

Joining me today for our Magic Mountain adventure was of course my bestie Robert (who came with me), Rupert, Aaron and Jessica. Jessica brought one of her good friends Courtney and her godson Jesse (13 year old kid).

We got into the park around 11 and I lead everyone to the first ride of the day.. Tatsu. It's one of my favorites and only a few of us had ridden it before. It took some persuading but we got Courtney on and because of a fastpass we weren't able to all be in the same car as planned.

Once we got off everyone really loved the ride, I'm so happy we rode it first as the line now was down the walkway. We waited maybe 20 minutes or so.. it looked like at least an hour or more now. We took a bathroom break and on our way over Rupert realized that he has lost his wallet. It must had fallen out while on the ride. He went back to see if anyone found it but we figured it was too soon. We all felt horrible as this wasn't how we wanted to start our little adventure today.

Our next stop was Apocalypse, again it was an hour wait. The park was filling up fast. While in line Robert started messing with me, mostly tickling me, as I'm extremely ticklish. To my surprise Jesse got in on it and started playing around with Robert and I. Jesse and I instantly bonded (more on that later).

After Apocalypse we were starving so we headed
to the food court. Jesse, Robert and I got buffalo wings while Aaron, Rupert, Jessica & Courtney got burgers. It was packed and the service was slow.. I think it took about an hour to get food for everyone.

Lunch was over and it was almost 3pm, we did another bathroom break as Rupert parted ways and headed to the lost and found to file a report about his wallet. Robert and Jesse wanted to climb the rock wall. We talked them into letting our stomach settle as we wait in line for Riddler's Revenge. That line probably took about an hour, we split up into 2 groups.. Jesse, Aaron and myself and Robert, Courtney and Jessica..  We got on one car apart from each other.. it was a lot of fun. Lots of shenanigans while in line.

As promised Robert and Jesse went to do the Rock Wall. Now that Aaron's stomach was settled he decided to join them. They asked for me to join and looking back I should have but I didn't want to embarrass myself out there so I declined. The three guys climbed for a good half hour or so. Jesse made it to the top of the level 3 wall while Aaron made it halfway up the level 4 wall and Robert made it just a bit pass the half way point on level 5 wall. Good times were had.

By the time we were done Rupert joined back up. We headed to Goliath next as most folks wanted to do that one and we were running out of time. The wait was just over an hour but once again there were lots of line shenanigans. One great thing about MM lines are the videos that they play. All day long we kept hearing the same commercials and there was this on Snickers and Sharks commercial that kept Robert laughing and another M&M "Sexy and your know it" one had all of us dancing every time we heard it... it was a pretty great group.

Once we were done with Goliath it was around 6:45pm and Jessica, Jesse and Courtney called it a night but before they left we all kept talking about fudge all day so we stopped by a fudge shop and picked up six pieces of fudge to share. We said out final goodbyes around 7:15pm. It was sad to see them go but I knew it wasn't going to be the last time we saw them.

For our final ride Robert, Rupert, Aaron and I did Green Lantern's Light. Again this is a newer roller coaster, it's cool because it's a vertical roller coaster. I was the only one who had ridden prior so that is always fun experiencing the ride with a bunch of first timers. 

They all loved the ride and it was a great way to end our day at Magic Mountain. The parked closed at 8pm but we could have gone on for a few more hours. We said our goodbyes to Aaron and Rupert. Robert and I stopped by Islands on the way back to my place to pick up some dinner.

I so enjoyed our one on one talks, that's one of many things I love about Robert, our ability to talk completely open and honest about anything... got home around 10pm and crashed on the bed and watched TV for an hour before calling it night.

Eh... Kind of Day

Didn't do much today.. worked on my MASH podcast and just kind of bummed around the house for most of the day. Only good thing that happen is that my buddy Robert come over around 10pm to crash as we planned to go to Magic Mountain tomorrow.

We kind of just hung out on my bed and watched some Simpsons and Robot Chicken before calling it a night a bit after 11. Looking forward to tomorrow...

Office Clean Up And A Few Shots

Today I wasn't feel so hot.. my friend Lydia who is visiting from Switzerland was going to Disneyland and she asked if I wanted to go and I said no.. I know I must be sick if I turn down a trip to Disneyland. My stomach and digestive system hasn't been feeling so hot the past week. So it was pretty much a low key kind of day. I spent the majority of the day cleaning up my office area. Packing up stuff that has accumulated over the past six months.

I started feeling better in the evening, which was good since my buddy Chris as having one of his weekly Google Hangouts and I found out that Google Hangout has an option for low bandwidth and if I select that, then I could actually do a video hangout. So I joined in and we were having fun when someone mentioned a drink and the next thing I knew everyone was drinking. By the end of the night I had had 14 shots of coconut rum and was feeling fine. I did lots of laughing, which amused everyone. And feel out of my chair a few times... I was tired by 11pm and called it a night. Let's just hope I don't wake up tomorrow with a horrible hangout... but if I do.. it was well worth it.

Geekyfanboy Productions New Logo

Today I had planned to get my next MASH podcast done and maybe even a Knights of the Guild podcast done. Or maybe write some more of my webseries.. but that didn't happen. My friend Matthew Brackney messaged me on Facebook and said that he had some idea for my Geekyfanboy Productions logo. I texted him a few days ago and told him vaguely what I was looking for and he said he was going to sketch some ideas out and get back to me.. well he did a bit more then that he actually finished several version of the logo.

He sent version 1 to me and it was 85% what I wanted.. I put in requested a few changes and a few minutes later he sent me version 2, it was closer but the glasses were still a bit off so I sent him a picture of glasses that I had in mind. Again only a few minutes later he sent me version 3 and the glasses looked great but I did ask if he could change the color from red to green as that's my favorite. Version 4 was sent and I realized that the green he used made it look like a Starbuck's logo. So I asked if he could make it a different color green.. maybe more olive color. Then I got version 5 and that was it. Both the simple logo and the, what I call, circle logo looked fantastic.
I put it out there for friends to check out and give me their thoughts. Most were positive and most liked the "simple" logo better. I got a lot of comments about the green circle logo looking like Starbuck's still. I asked him to go back to his original idea of red. He also made me white ones as well as a different B&@ with more white then black. And someone suggested to color the glasses on the simple logo so I asked him to make one in red and green...

So in a matter of an few hours I had nine fantastic logos for my company. I have plenty to choose from. I want to publicly (well in my blog) thank Matt for doing these for me. He's a professional artist and didn't charge me for his services. He did it out of the kindness of his heart... thanks buddy I love them.

Next step is to apply for a business license.

Later in the day my buddy Chris came online and we jumped on Lord of the Rings Online and went questing for a few hours. He's a busy guys so it's nice when we can slip away into Middle Earth and have some fun.
