Terra Nova

I've been looking forward to this series. There's been alot of talk about this over the year and had several false starts but it finally premiered this week. I manged to watch half of it before work hell (see previous blog) but when I got home I watched the rest.  Overall I really enjoyed the first two hours. I liked the story and the characters. Acting was hit and miss but nothing so bad that it took me out of the story. the SFX were again a hit and miss but I do know it's a TV budget and my biggest SFX issue are the dinosaurs during the day, not the best CG but the dinos at night looked fantastic and were scary as heck. I liked how they explained alot in the first two hours but left several mysteries that I hope will unfold during the season. Only plot device I didn't like was when (SPOILER) they young girl who freaks out in the car leaves and seems to be attacked but someone escapes and manages to find the adults and help them locate the other kids. Other then that I liked the story. I can't wait to see where it goes and what adventures are in store for us.

Will This Ever End!!!

Today started off great, I had nothing really planned. I was off work and was going to do some podcasting and watch some TV, it was going to be a great day. After spending a few hours on the computer I made my way to the TV room to watch the premiere episode of Terra Nova. I got through about 2/3rds of it before getting a call from my co-working asking if I saw an email from the heads over at MTV. I told her no, that I was relaxing and just watching TV. Well she informed me that the big boss at MTV was asking for digital cuts and DVD's of every episode and that he want them NOW!!

I heard the word "NOW" and something in my brain snapped. First let me say that I don't get angry often, and I'm a pretty laid back person. Though that is good it's also bad as I ball up all my anger and have moments when it just bursts.. well this was one of those moments and I feel horrible for my poor co-worker who was just the messenger, but I let lose. I'm use to stupid executives people making crazy unrealistic demands and normally just grin and bear it.. but not this time. I "official" finished this job last Friday, but due to some mistakes on the executives part we had to come on on Monday and Tuesday to do some fixes. But today was my day off, I didn't plan to go in and was in the middle of watching a new TV series. I ranted for about ten minutes until I calmed down enough to inform my co-worker that I would do what they requested but I was going to send them a very nasty email about respect and such... I didn't care what would happen. It's not like they can fire me and if they don't want to bring me back on another show (oh well). So I hung up the phone and let out this guttural yell, thank goodness I live alone.

After that I checked my email and noticed another issue that would require me to come into to the office today. So I came in around Noon and stayed till about 8pm. When I got home I finished watching Terra Nova (blog review will follow). And then went to bed wanting to put this day behind me. And no I never did send that email out. Friday can't get here soon enough.. I can't wait for this job to end

Podcasts, Interviews, Moving & Work

Today was a jammed packed day with all kinds of different things. First I was up at 7am and forced myself to get started on some podcasts. First up was to string out my next KOTG CompanionCast for episode 10 which is due out on Thursday. I manage to do one pass before moving onto another one. I then started to work on my MASH 4077 podcast which is due on Saturday. This is a much harder edit then my CompanionCasts and it took me to about 11am to get the first edit pass done. That was it for podcasts for today. I got a good start by I'm far from completing any of them.

At 11am I started to get ready to head out to meet up with my buddy Greg Aronowitz. We were having lunch and then I was going to interview him for my KOTG CompanionCasts for the final 3 episodes of The Guild's season five.

Lunch was a lot of fun as we discussed the podcast that we are going to be doing together. He came up with a name for it (which I won't announce here.. just yet) and he told me who he wants for his first guest, which I have to say is pretty amazing. The more we talk about the podcast the more excited I get. This has potential to be a pretty EPIC podcast. I can't wait to get started on it.

After lunch we headed back to the Barnyard (greg's place) and we did the 3 interviews and as always Greg gives some great detail about what goes into making each episode.

Once I was done with Greg I headed over to my friend Andrew's place to pack up my buddy Scott's stuff. Scott just moved here from the East Coast and was staying with Andrew for a week while waiting for his apartment to be ready.. well it's ready and Scott knew I had a truck and asked if I would be willing to help move the bulk of his stuff, and of course I said yes. So at 2pm I packed up my truck and headed over to Scott's place near Miracle Mile. Then Scott and I carried his stuff up to his new apartment and he gave me a quick tour (very nice place). I helped with a few Ikea's "furniture in a box" that he had in his car. We said our goodbyes and made plans to visit Whimsic Alley (A Harry Potter Store) as he lives a block away from it.

And finally my final destination was MTV. Yeah with all the stuff that was going on the past few days I had to go in and work on a few pieces that they requested. I got in around 4pm and worked until 10pm and had enough so I headed home.

All in all it was a pretty good day today.. got to see some friends (Greg and Scott)... got to work on some podcasts (KOTG & MASH) and mange to get a few hours of work done and get one step closer to actually being done with this job.

The Day After

This past weekend was so fantastic and I knew I would be depressed the day after because after having a house full of friends for two days, it's tough to go back to being alone. So I had planned to go to Disneyland, who can be depressed at Disneyland.. but when I woke up I wasn't felling so hot. I think it was a partially lack of sleep and partially all the work stress of the previous weeks finally taking it's toll on me. So I didn't go to Disneyland. :(

Jes who stayed with me the entire weekend left around 10am to head back up north and I did a bit of cleaning. I really wanted to get started on some podcasts as I have many of them due before I go on my week vacation next week... but I just didn't feel motivated.

Work crap kept coming up, they kept having audio sync issues which just stressed me out more (I so can't wait for this job to really end). So I pretty much did nothing all day. Watched some TV, dealt with work issues, surfed the internet, ate some food and missed my friends.

One highlight from today was I got to talk to Felicia Day for my KOTG CompanionCasts. We chatted about the final 3 episodes.

I've been a very Emo Kenny today. :)

Birthday Extravaganza - Sunday

Was awake by 7:30am but stayed in bed until 8am. Got up and went out to the living around and everyone with exception to Scott & Will was up. I started working on breakfast when Scott got up and came to help along with Chris. Everyone else hooked up the Wii and started to play Mario Carts. Soon breakfast (we made, pancakes, eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, potatoes and fruit) was finished and we all had our share. Will finally got up and left without eating (had to get to church). The rest of us took our breakfast, sat down and began Episode 2 "Attack of the Clones". There was light banter back and forth about the "scenes" of Padma and Anakin. After that we went right into Episode 3 "Revenge of the Sith" and about 24 hours later we had watched the entire Star Wars Saga on blu-ray.

After that the nine of us (Aaron, Scott, Jen, Chris, Jes, Anne, Luis, Rupert and myself) went out to lunch at Islands and had a great time. Lot's of laughing and Star Wars references.  Anne departed our group and we were down to eight. We stopped by Best Buy so Chris could get The Fifth Element (for Scott, as he had never seen it and for some reason I don't have a DVD of it). When then went to Vasquez Rocks since it's only a few miles from my house. No one had been there before and all of them being geeks would have seen it in movies and films as they film alot of stuff there. We had all just eaten so it was going to be a light hike, well for some of us (Chris is a maniac :) ) We hiked for about of half hour before we called it a day. Got back to my place around 6pm and Aaron and Jen left us. The remaining party sat down and watched The Fifth Element (on blu-ray) and had a great time with this modern classic sci fi movie. Around 8:30pm we called it a night and the remaining folks Chris, Rupert, Scott, and Luis said our goodbyes and departed. Jes was staying the night and leaving Monday morning.

This was by far one of the best weekends I have had in a long time. I appreciate everyone who showed up on Saturday to celebrate my birthday with this awesome Star Wars marathon (Aaron, Scott, Jen, Adam, Chris, Andrew, Jes, Brian, Anne, Luis, Michele, Michael, Rupert, Will, Teal, Ali, Greg and Red 5. And I really want to Thank those of you who did the entire two day Extravaganza; Chris, Scott, Jen, Anne, Rupert, Aaron, Luis, and Jes. You guys are truly some of the nicest and sweetest people I know.

And to Chris, Jen, Anne, Aaron and Luis (Leslie & Scott), I single you guys out as you've have been to both my Indy marathon and now my SW marathon and I have no words that can express amount of love and gratitude I have for you guys. I've always wanted to find that group of close "Friends" who love to hang out just to hang out and it may have taken me 40 years but I feel like this group has become that. I can't wait until we do this again for Lord of the Rings in November/December.

Birthday Extravaganza - Saturday

Woke up around 6:30am, guess I was too excited for the day to start. I did some last minute cleaning (but there wasn't much). Jes woke up around 9ish and helped clean a bit. We had some breakfast and then waited for guests to arrive. Only thing we had to do was move my big screen TV to the dining area where I had set up all the seating. Around 11:30am my friends Aaron and Anne showed up followed shortly after by my buddy Chris. I had Chris, Jes and Anne help me with moving the big TV. Once that was done we prepped the BBQ and sides and got everything ready.

As the hour passed more friends showed up. Andrew, Scott, Luis, Jen Michele and Brian. I had planned to start around 1pm but since we had a few stragglers we opted to get the BBQ going and with the help of Chris we had burgers and hot dogs cooked in no time. It was finally 2 and we needed to get started on the Star Wars Blu-Ray Marathon. I opted to watch the movie in release order Episode 4, 5 and 6 and then 1, 2, 3.  So we all grabbed some BBQ and stated with Episode 4 "A New Hope". While A New Hope was going on a few more friends arrived Rupert, Greg and Alynne (Red 5). The blu-ray picture quality is incredible and the re-edited sound track was amazing. We took a quick break and Michele had to get to work, so Jes who makes plushy version of people had made some for Team Unicorn so she presented Michele's with hers.

After we said our goodbyes we moved on to Episode 5 "The Empire Strikes" Back. While this was going on my friend Michael arrived. Another amazing looking video quality. And honestly I didn't notice any major changes to the actual film. Of course I read about the big ones but nothing really stood out to me, I was just in awe at the crispness of the picture. I was seeing things I'd never seen before in all my hundreds of viewings.

After Empire we ordered some Pizza and my friends Teal and Ali were going to pick them up since they were on their way. So we waited until those guys got here before starting Return of the Jedi. During this down time folks started chatting about the Wars, their likes and dislikes. I then suggested while we wait that we watch Star Wars Lego the Padawan Menace, it was a one off TV special back in July. It was just released on Blu-ray as a Walmart exclusive and my good friend Rick sent it to me for my birthday. I don't think anyone had seen it so I popped it in. After it was over it got high praises from everyone. Just as it was finishing Teal and Ali arrived with the pizzas. So we ate dinner and then started Episode 6 "Return of the Jedi".

We finished that around 10ish and folks started to leave. Greg, Red, Adam, Teal, Ali and Brian all left and Andrew a half hour later. But my best bud Will showed up. During this time I opened presents and we did shots, hung out and wand dueled on the back patio.  I figured we did the 3 episodes today and we would do the next 3 episodes tomorrow. But after an hour or so of just chatting and hanging out we voted to do one more episode so we popped in Episode 1 "The Phantom Menace". In hindsight this was a mistake as towards the end, about half of us were sleeping. Around 1:30 the movie ended and Aaron, Scott, Jen, Chris, Jes, Anne, Luis, Rupert, Michael and Will opted to sleepover. We figured out where everyone was going to sleep and by 2:30am everyone was in bed fast asleep.

Happy Birthday To Me!!

Well today is my 41st Birthday. Wow.. hard to believe I am into my 40's. I know I don't feel 40 and I think that's because of the geek in me.. keeps me young. I got hundreds of facebook posts and tweets wishing me all kinds of Happy Birthday. It's a pretty incredible feeling having a few hundred people wish you a Happy Birthday. It made this day so much better. I didn't really get to celebrate as it's my "official" last day working for MTV and was extremely stressful. But every time I would get a tweet or a facebook post saying Happy Birthday it made the day better.

So THANK YOU ALL, who made this day just a little brighter for me. This weekend is going to be EPIC!!!

Last Day at Work??

Well today is "officially" my last day at work.  I say "officially" as I will have to come in a few days next week to finish some thing off. But it will as few hours as I can possible manage. Today was stress filled as expected and maybe because I was expecting it, it didn't effect me as much. And the fact that I knew I was coming back for a few days helped me not panic about not finishing everything.

Also tonight is the night before my big Star Wars Marathon / 41st Birthday Extravaganza. Though I was uber busy all week I did manage to get everything done during the week, which makes me very happy. My friend Jes came down from SF area to join us in the festivities. She got to my house around 10pm. We chatted but both were extremely tired (her seven hour drive, and my stressful work day). So we called it a night. Can't wait until tomorrow and this, what I hope to be, fun filled weekend.

One Big Blurrrrr

This entire week has been one big blur. It's my last week at MTV and that means way to much stress to try and get everything done that needs to get done before I leave on Friday. Besides that in all my wisdom I decided to have a Star Wars Marathon / BBQ / 41st Birthday party this coming weekend so I've been working long hours and then coming home and trying to get things down around the house. Oh and I'm still editing podcasts to get them out on schedule.

So far I've moved all my furniture around to accommodate as many people as I can. I cleaned the entire place and went grocery shopping. All I have left is to get my Birthday cake and move my 60" TV into the living/dining room (which I can't do by myself). So I've done pretty much everything for the party.

And though tomorrow is my Birthday I expect I'll be so busy at work and stressed out that I won't be able to enjoy it.. but then again I have the fun weekend ahead of me and I'll be able to relax and have some fun with some friends.

I was on set everyday while they shot Season 5. As actors and crew were finished with scenes I would try and speak to them. Get some inside info about the scene they just shot. I also interviewed Felicia Day and Kim Evey about the storyline and Sean Becker about the directing. Each one of these CompanionCasts will be episode specific and will vary in length depending on how much guildie goodness I am able to gather.

Jones Soda... The Guild

Got my Guild themed Jones Soda's today. They were extremely well packed but I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed as when the place the bottle in the cardboard cutout at the bottom of the box some of the bottle labels were torn up and as a collectors and the fact that I paid $25 for six soda bottles, it's kind of disappointing. But they are cool and I plan to get mine signed by the cast (since they are my friends). Now to figure out where to display them!!!

Family, Emmy's & Goonies

Today was a fun day, got up around 8am did a little editing, I cut in the Greg interview I did last night so now Knights of the Guild companioncast S5E9 is done. I'll do one more polish pass just to make sure everything sounds as good as it can and then will create the shows notes and release it on Thursday.

I then went over to my brother's house to visit my Dad, we talked about his health, no sign of cancer, but still have two more chemo treatments just to be safe then they work on getting his red and white blood cell numbers back up. We had lunch at our favorite Chinese restaurant Hong Kong. Then I took him food shopping. When we got back to the house my brother had left and locked up and as always my Dad didn't have his key so we were locked out. Texted and called my brother but no response and finally half hour later I got on the roof and broke in through my Dad's opened window.  All in all it was a nice visit.

After the visit I headed over to my friends Leo and Andrew's new house out in Van Nuys. They were having an unofficial house warming (real one will be in a few weeks when the other two roommate arrive) but for now it was a small group. When I go that Leo, Andrew and Scott were upstairs watching the beginning of the 2011 Emmy's so I joined in. About half way into the Emmy's another of Andrew's co-workers joined us and towards the end of the Emmy's. The Emmy's were fun and entertaining. It was fun watching them with a group of friends. There was some surprises and some obvious wins, but over all they are good.

Scott who just moved here from the east coast is in his early 20's and hasn't seen really any of the awesome 80's movies, like Last Starfighter, Princess Bride, Original Trilogy Star Wars (which we will fix next weekend) but also Goonies (both Andrew and I got the 25th Anniversary edition blu ray that came out a few months back. So we watched it after the Emmy's. It looked incredible in all it's HD glory. It was fun to watch this classic move from my younger years with someone who has never seen it. Scott seemed to really enjoy it and is up for watching other classic 80's in the future. Gonna be some good times. I had to head home as it was late and I live about 45 minutes north of them and have to work early tomorrow, but the guys stayed to play the Goonies board game that came with the boxset.

It was good day... got to spend some time with my Dad and with good friends.. couldn't ask for anything better.

A New Podcast

I know some folks will think that I'm crazy, already having 3 podcasts going but I do have several more in the works and one just got a bit closer to actually happening. Months ago Greg Aronowitz and I were chatting and I said we should do a podcast together. Greg has been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years and has worked with some of the greatest in their field (Lucas, Spielberg) and he has such great stories. But we both got busy and the topic kind of went away but not really. Recently Greg and I were talking and he mentioned the podcast again and the ideas started to flow. After we did the interview for the podcast Greg and I talked about the podcast in more details. Of course I can't say anything yet but if the ideas we have actually come to fruition this podcast is going to be epic!!! Not only will it be very entertaining but it's going to be chuck full of very valuable information to those wanting to get into the industry or for those who are just interested in how things work. I am very excited to get started on this one. Greg and I will be getting together in October to work out the details and hopefully with in the next few month we can record and by the beginning of 2012 we can start releasing this new podcast. I'll keep you guys updated on the progress.

Podcasts, Yard Work and Fires

I think the title of this blog is pretty much the title of all my blogs recently. Once again today I wanted to work on editing some podcasts. I think with the weekly CompanionCast it seems all I do on weekends are editing podcasts. Luckily there are only 4 more CompanionCasts left for the season. I got up at 7:30am and went outside to do some yard work. Did that for an hour before coming in an taking a break. I tried to motivate myself to do some podcasts but it was a struggle and instead I surfed the net and watched some TV.  I really wanted to start watching my new Star Wars on Blu-ray, which I got yesterday but I knew if I started I wouldn't be able to stop and I have to much to do to devote an entire day to Star Wars (though that sounds WONDERFUL).

At 11am I had set up to record several podcasts with my friends Al and Joyce. I was doing a Confessions of a Fanboy with Al and a Confessions of a Fangirl with Joyce. Also Joyce and I were doing a podcast for one of their shows call Just Because. This episode's title is Coffee Talk with Kenny and Joyce. Had a blast chatting with these guys. Got done with that around 1:30pm and noticed helicopter sounds coming from outside and that's never a good sign. So I went out back and saw a brush fire just over the hill. It looked like it was burning for a while and it was going in the opposite direction from my house so I was feeling okay, but winds could change and things can go from good to bad in a matter of seconds. I watched the fire for a half hour or so and then decided to head out and grab some lunch. While driving down Sierra Highway there was a ton of people on the side of the road watching the fire, it was kind of bizarre seeing so many people out and about as this is normally a very quiet area. Got my lunch from El Pollo Loco and headed home. While eating lunch I watched a few hours of TV, again trying to motivate myself to edit my next KOTG
CompanionCast. Finally around 6pm I jumped on the computer and began to edit the next CompanionCast. Around 9pm I realized that I hadn't eaten dinner so I made myself a quick dinner and watched the latest Doctor Who (it was really creepy, super sad and had a surprising ending, can't wait to see where it goes). After Who my buddy Greg Aronowitz texted me and asked if I was up for a skype call to talk about episode 9 for the CompanionCast, the one I'm currently working on. He's been so busy lately that we haven't been able to hook up and talk. So of course I love having him part of the podcast I jumped on skype and did the interview him. Will have to cut that in tomorrow morning and the podcast will be ready to go.

All in all it was a lazy yet productive day. I had my moments of laziness but then burst of energy and was able to get some things done. Still haven't opened the Star Wars blu-ray :( Hopefully I'll have a few hours on Sunday and watch some of it.

Goonies Never Say Die

A surprise was waiting for me when I got home today. My Goonies 25th Anniversary blu ray  box set arrived. My buddy Andrew tweeted just two days ago about Amazon having a 50% sale on the blu ray and I've been wanting this every since I found out about it a few months ago. I of course I ordered it and it already arrived. Even at it's regular price of $34.98 it's well worth it but I got it for $17.49 (and it's still on sale now as I blog this.. so go pick it up HERE). It includes the movie on Blu-ray of course but comes and that disc has director & cast commentary, making of featurette and the Cyndi Lauper Music Video. You also get 10 awesome Storyboard cards, The Goonies "Where Are They Now" Empire Magazine Article reprint, The Goonies 1985 Souvenir Magazine 64-Page reproduction and the closest thing besides the movie The Goonies 25th Anniversary Exclusive Board Game "Escape form One-Eyed Willy's Cave"

The Hunger Games Trilogy

Well I finally finished listening/reading this book trilogy series last week but have been too busy to blog about it. So since I have some free time I figured I'd give my thoughts about this series. There are three novels. Book 1 "The Hunger Games", book 2 "Catching Fire", and book 3 "MockingJay". This blog won't have any spoilers as it's more of a general review of the series.

Here's a short synopsis;  The Hunger Games Trilogy is a young-adult science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. It introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once existed. This is where a government working in a central city called the Capitol holds power. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each of 12 districts to fight to the death. The Hunger Games exist to demonstrate that not even children are beyond the reach of the Capitol's jurisdiction. And the story evolves from there.

I really enjoyed the first novel, at first it was hard to imagine this was a young adult novel with all the killings of children. But it's a very intense and violent story. But it's also very engaging and you start to care about these character right off the bat, which makes it worse when some of them die.

The second book was enjoyable, but it's defiantly felt more like a set up for the third book then the first book did to the second book. The first book felt like a complete novel.. books 2 and 3 felt like a complete novel together.

Book 3 was great 2/3's of the way through and then suddenly this one scene happens (won't spoil it) and everything after that was kind of blah!! It just fell apart and I found myself annoyed. The ending is not bad enough that I would say it detracted from the entire trilogy but I have to say up to that point the story was moving along and everything was tense and great.. and I'm not saying the ending didn't have it's moments but it felt different after that moment.

So would I recommend this series. Short answer Yes!! even with the weak ending the series as a whole was dark, tense and very entertaining.

In an effort to achieve this, they convince him that Frank Burns is a crossdresser and that Henry Blake is an alcoholic who is having a sordid affair with the promiscuous Margaret Houlihan. These stories achieve the purpose of rendering Hawkeye and Trapper the only two people in camp Buzz can be sure are trustworthy. A little manipulation and some conveniently timed events add some apparent proof to these claims. For example, when Buzz is drinking with them in the Swamp, they leave a pair of gold high heeled shoes by Frank's bed. Later, Frank tries to check Buzz's leg to see if it is healing properly, and he is rebuffed by Buzz, who suspects that he has romantic or sexual intentions. When Margaret becomes suspicious, Hawkeye and Trapper tell her that Buzz is suffering from low self-esteem and heavily imply that he needs intimate contact with a woman to prove that he is still a man. While he is alone with Margaret, they get Henry Blake very drunk and give him a pistol (telling him that he needs to undertake an arms proficiency test) and arrange for him to walk in on the two of them and encourage an angry, drunken response.

Throughout the episode, they undertake more subtle measures to try to convince him that, among these people he cannot trust, he is going mad. Such measures include switching his tent, leaving him confused about whether it has been there the whole time, and telling him to drink his glass of milk that he so fervently asked for, despite his never having asked for a glass of milk. At the end, convinced that there must be something wrong with him, Buzz is shipped back stateside.

Mortgage Woes

I was checking out my bank statement today and my mortgage loan is also through the same bank so I get to see how much money I still owe on my house and I have to say I was shocked. I've been in this house for two years now. Our starting loan amount was $258,000, I've made 17 payments of $1747.20 and then homeowners insurance was raised and the last 7 payments have been at $1939.48. So if you add all that together the total amount I have paid toward my loan is $43,278.76. Now of course this total includes money that I have put towards my home owners insurance and state taxes. So minus $4000.00 ($2000 a year) for that, leaving $39,278.76, which sounds great, but when I went to look at my loan balanced I noticed it was at $250,000 meaning I paid $8000 on my loan and the rest $31,278.76 went to interest. I feel sick to my stomach that so much of my mortgage payment went to interest and so little to the principle. How can banks be failing with a rip off scams like this.

Podcasting Weekend

It's seems like the majority of my weekends are filled with podcasting. I can't remember a weekend when I didn't work on one of my podcasts. Doing the weekly Knights of the Guild CompanionCasts take up so much of my free time. Before when I had just MASH 4077 Podcast & the regular Knights of the Guild podcast which both came out twice a month it wasn't that bad but I don't know how folks do weekly podcasts week after week. Luckily The Guild's new season only runs 12 episodes (12 weeks = 12 CompanionCasts). Normally I can handle the work load but since I'm towards the end of my MTV gig (only two weeks left) things are crazy. But I'll get through it like I always do. I've always said that once podcasting feels like job and is no longer fun I'll stop doing it... and though it does feel like a job at times I'm still having a blast doing it.

Still hoping all this hard work pays off with some sort of professional podcaster for my next gig. Just need to figure out how I can make enough money to live off podcasting.

Anyways this weekend I wanted to get four podcasts done. 1 MASH 4077 Podcast, 1 Confessions of a Fanboy, 1 Knights of the Guild "Regular" podcast and 1 Knights of the Guild CompanionCast.

So on Saturday I got started early, felt great was going to get a ton done today. Started with my MASH 4077 Podcast, worked on it for hours before taking a break. Continued to work on it for the next few hours and finally around 5pm I was done. It took me a bit longer then expected but I'm very happy with the results. After dinner I started the next KOTG CompanionCast. There are 14 interviews in this one and I have to edit each and every one of them. I got about half way through it before my eyes went cross and I have to call it a night.

So I didn't get done was much as I was hoping but I still had another entire day.

So on Sunday I got up and really struggled with motivating myself to finish editing the podcasts. I did mange to finish the rest of my KOTG CompanionCast and now that's ready to be released next Thursday. I took a break from podcasting and went to lunch at Boston Market, then Best Buy to pick up X-Men First Class and finally to Target. At Target I picked up some shirts, shorts and a hat but wound up putting it all back as I really didn't need them. Instead I bought what I actually went there to get a new toilet seat as the one in the guest bathroom has broken completely off. It was strange shopping by myself. Again this is something that Harry and I did together. Just reminded me that I was alone.

Got home and jumped back on the computer. I started to edited my next "regular" Knights of the Guild podcast as I wanted to release it on the 15th but realized since it's a major relaunch and I want to do it right and add a few more segments I pushed the release date to the 1st of October which gives me a few more week to get it done. So instead I took a break and put on my new toilet seat but found out that I don't have a standard toilet and the seat I purchased was too small.. oh well it will work for the timing being. After that  I sat down to watch the latest Doctor Who and had some dinner. This weeks Who had me bawling like a baby... so good. After that I went back editing podcasts, this time I worked on my Confessions of a Fanboy and actually finished it before I was too tired and had to go to bed.

So I didn't get everything done that I wanted too.. but it was a pretty productive weekend.

Going Gray.. not!!!

Today in between podcasting I took a break to dye my hair. Well at least over it up for six weeks (so the box says). I've used the "Just for Men" before and liked the results so I opted to do it again. And once again it turned out pretty good. It's funny the box says it only targets the gray hairs but it actually darkens all my hair, which I don't mind. It's only temporary and the gray will be back. I don't mind gray hair as the years pass I'm just happy to still have a little hair left to turn gray.

Recording with Teal

Today after work I headed over to my friends Teal and Ali's house for some dinner. Teal and I were also going to record an episode of my Knights of the Guild podcast. I haven't done a "regular" Knights of the Guild podcast in a few months and really want to get them going again.

So I got to their place around 7:30, we had some yummy dinner and good conversation. Around 8:30 I set up my studio in Teal's office. Was using all my new equipment (Thank you all). Teal was my guinea pig not only my first new co-host with this new formatted Knights of the Guild but I hadn't worked with this new equipment in the field yet. Everything looked great until I realized that Garageband only recorded for 8 minutes at a time. I knew there had to be away to change the length as many friends us it to record long podcasts but for the life of me I couldnt' figure it out. Luckily I had my back up plan and had my awesome new hand held recorder and after a few false starts we got the podcast going. After an hour we were done and I think for a first attempt it went pretty good. If you listen to my podcast you know it's very structured and this new format felt all over the place. It's going to take some creative editing to piece it all together but I'm liking the idea of this newly revamped format for Knights of the Guild.. hopefully the listeners will like it too. It was suppose to come out Sept. 15th but I think I'm going to wait and really make it good and release it on Oct. 1st as the new podcasts come out on the 1st of every month.

Anyways it was a fun night hanging with my buddy Teal.. she's a sweetheart.

Potter Happiness

Today after a very long and stressful week I came home to a package on my door step. I had an idea of what it was and was very excited. The past few years I've been collecting Harry Potter mini busts (among others) and a few weeks prior I had found this really good deal of a set of four Harry Potter busts, Luna, Dobby, Sirius and Harry Potter (1st edition). Now these busts pop up on ebay from time and time and each can go for $100 to $250 each. Well I put my max bid in for all four at $300 and when it ended I won them for $280 + $13 shipping. So I roughly paid $75 a figure, which in my book is pretty good and I got some really hard to find ones.

Well they arrived and I excitedly unpacked them one at a time. First was Luna and she looked great, then Dobby and again he looked fantastic and then I unpacked Harry and noticed that both of his hand were gone. I noticed that one was removable and must still be in the box but the other one had snapped off and was laying next to the figure. :( I was disappointed at first and was going to write the person but they did wrap them up in a ton of bubble wrap and did everything they could to protect them so I couldn't blame them. Luckily the break was under his sleeve and with a little super glue you would never know it has snapped off. I then opened Sirius who looked great. So proudly displayed them with the rest of my Harry Potter mini busts and it was a great way to end this crappy work week. I love HARRY POTTER!!!

Only A Few Weeks Left

Is what I keep telling myself to get through another day of this stressful job. I don't know why I keep putting myself through all this stress. Yes the money is good but it's not worth the headaches, chest pains and sleepless nights worrying how I'm going to get all this stuff done. My official last day on this job is my birthday Friday September 23rd, which is only two weeks away but my list of things to do is so long that I may have to come back the following week for a few days to finish everything. And if I don't get done by then I'll be back after my Florida vacation on Oct. 10th but I really don't want to do that. I just want this job to end!!!!

Fires, Podcasts & Glee.. Oh My!!

Today have been an interesting day... got up early with plans to finish my next episode of Knights of the Guild CompanionCast S5E7 and MASH 4077 Podcast #16. I also wanted to do a bit of cleaning and replace my headlight and a fuse on my jeep.

Like yesterday I had a very hard time keeping myself motivated. Those remaining six episodes of Glee kept calling to me.  But I resisted (for a while) and get started. I strung out my next Knights of the Guild CompanionCast and then cut together the three hosts audio for my next MASH 4077 Podcast. I then took a break to get some breakfast and watch some TV. And like yesterday this was a mistake as I watched not one, not two, not three but four episodes of Glee. Glee has been a hit or miss with me, I mean that's why I left the last 9 episodes on my DVR for months. But once I start watching it sucks me right back in and I'm so in love with Blaine (Darrin Criss) and I enjoy his relationship with Kurt, I just had to keep watching. I still have two more episode in season 2 but I really needed to get back to podcasting.

So I decided to work on my next KOTG CompanionCast as that is due Thursday and my next MASH 4077 Podcast isn't due until the next, next Thursday (Sept. 15th). So I already know I'm not going to get both of these done and the KOTG needs to get done first. So I work on that one for an hour before I remember that I wanted to go buy a new headlight and some fuses for my jeep. I figured I'd pick up some lunch while I was out as well. So I went to Pep Boys and then do Del Taco and as I was heading home I noticed a think black smoke coming from over the hills where I live. As I got closer I realized the fire is still a few miles away from me but it's growing fast.

So for the next few hours I'm on high alert, I can see the fire from my home across the valley. And smell the smoke in the air but there really isn't anything I can do but wait and see. So I ate my lunch and yep you guessed it I watched the last two episodes of Glee from Season 2.  I really enjoyed the last nine episodes of the season. So happy to see that Kurt and Blaine's relationship is going so well. I was afraid they were going to have a rocky one.. but I was wrong. Went out to check on the fire and while I was out I replaced my headlight in my Jeep, that was an ordeal but in the end I got done. And for the fuse I couldn't find the one that went to my dash board and it was too bright to see if the one I did replace did the job.. will have to wait until it's dark to see if I fixed that.

Back in side and no more excuses I had to get at least one of my podcasts done so I continued to work on Knights of the Guild CompanionCast S5E7. As I blog this I'm about 2/3'ds of the day done and will put the finishing touches on it tomorrow.

Just noticed that my Confessions of a Fanboy podcast website is done and must go to investigate.

Fire is still going on but it seems that the firemen have everyone under control, let's just hope the winds stay down and everything goes well tonight.. I'll keep you all posted.

My Sunday

Today I had planned to do nothing but podcasting. Since yesterday was my Dad's family BBQ and tomorrow is my Mom's family BBQ. So today I wanted to get another episode of Confessions of a Fanboy done as well as my next episode of Knights of the Guild CompanionCast and MASH 4077 Podcast.

Well in reality I wanted to do nothing, I wanted to just kick back and watch TV. I have quite a few TV series DVR'd. So I started preparing my next Confessions with an interview I did last month with my buddy and fellow podcaster Kevin Bachelder. Strung it out and started editing it. Took a break for lunch and started to watch a Glee episode.. which was not a good idea. I had nine episodes on my DVR so I watched one, then another and then a third before forcing myself to stop and get back to podcasting.

Finally got my next episode of Confessions of a Fanboy #2 with Kevin Bachelder all edited, leveled, converted and uploaded. By the time I got done it was late and I had gotten a call from my mom earlier today cancelling the BBQ for tomorrow so I figured I would go to bed and work on the next two podcasts tomorrow.

So I started off wanting to get 3 podcasts done but by the end of the day I had only finished one but I did get 3 episodes of Glee watched and loving it. Still got 6 more episodes to go, maybe I'll watch them tomorrow... no bad Kenny.. must get my podcasts done!!

Family BBQ

Today was my Dad's side of the family's Labor Day BBQ. I hadn't seen his side of the family for a few years. (They were supporters of Prop 8 - Anti Gay Marriage Bill here in CA) so we (Harry and I ) boycotted going to family events for a few years. But it really was only one of my cousins and her family. And they're not bad people just Mormons.

Anyways it was time to see them again and I really did miss them as we just found them five or so year ago (Dad was adopted, found Wally his half brother five years ago). So I drove to a park out in Lakewood (I think), got to meet alot of Wally's family, played some volleyball with my cousins kids as well as some croquet. Played with Kenobi at the playground. It was nice visiting with them. They always treat us like we've known each other all our lives. Can't wait to see them again at Christmas time.

What A Day!!!

Well the day started off with an email from our EP just ripping apart one of the mixes of our show. Not the thing you want to wake up too in the morning. That's when I headache started. Drove into work, took Harry's truck as it was super hot and his truck as AC. Well about halfway to work his engine light comes on, great something else I have to worry about now. I make it work and it's as thought all the crazies was just waiting for me to walk through those doors.

I won't go into detail as many of you would have no idea what I was talking about and others would just find it boring. Needless to say that I can honestly say that this has been one of the worst works days I have had in a long time and that's saying something as I have had many bad works days as of late.

Anyways.. I was stressed out, still had the headache and my chest was hurting again. Not a good combination. I took a few minutes to calm down and remind myself that I don't care what happens here. I already quit once and if I would to be fired I would welcome it. I even considered quitting again as chest pains are not a good result of your work enviroment. But I mangaged to calm down and as the day went on I was able to get things under control so that by the time I left work things were back in order and I was able to enjoy my dinner plans.

Dinner was with one of my best buds Will. We hadn't seen each other in over two months which is way tooo long. We had a nice dinner and chat at Chevy's out in Burbank. He was working and took a dinner break so we couldn't hang for hours but we did get to spend some great time together and it's just what I needed after the horrible day I had.

Henry wants Tuttle to be officer of the day, so Hawkeye creates a fake personnel file, and all his back pay is given to the orphanage. When General Clayton wants to reward his generosity by placing his picture in the newspaper and awarding him a medal. Hawkeye is forced to invent a story about Tuttle jumping from a chopper without his parachute! Of course, Trapper's new friend, Major Murdoch, obtained the fake dog tags and parachute...!

Editing KOTG CompanionCast S5E6

After work today I headed home and jumped on my computer and started editing the next CompanionCast for my Knights of the Guild podcast. Once again I string everything out and it's over 2 hours long with 14 interviews. I worked on it till midnight but my Avid was acting funky and finally when it crashed for a fifth or sixth time I took it as a sign to go to bed. I did get about 3 hours of work done on it and about about halfway done. Figure I'll get up early and get some editing time in before work tomorrow morning.

Lot's a great interviews in this episode. Season 5 of The Guild has been pretty epic and the companioncasts have been chuck full of awesome behind the scenes information. I hope to finish it tomorrow night and have it ready for it's Thursday night release.

Grocery Shopping

Well it's been several weeks since Harry left for Austria and I've been doing really well. I'm getting use to coming home to an empty house, sleeping and eating alone and watching TV by myself. I still have my moments when I open the door and expect an excited Daisy there to greet me. But today after work I went to Stater Bros. to pick up some groceries. This was the first time I've gone shopping by myself in eight years. This was always a couples thing that Harry and I did. When I got home and started bringing in the bags this overwhelming feeling of loneliness hit me. It was strange because it was so unexpected. I have been doing so well and getting use to being alone but now the panic and depression welled up inside me and my heart started to ache. It only lasted a half hour or so and then things went back to normal (or as normal as they are for me).

I know things won't be "normal" for a while but I thought I had gotten over the desperate feeling of loneliness, but I guess doing something that I've always done with Harry by myself effect me more then I thought. This is a learning process..

My Sunday

Since I didn't get done as much as I was hoping for yesterday I really wanted to focus on doing nothing but podcasting today. Got up at 8am and had to watched the last six episodes of MASH season one as I was having a skype call with my buddies Al and Simon so we could record episodes 19 to 24 of our MASH 4077 Podcast. Took a few hours to watch those six episodes and then I worked on MASH 4077 podcast episode 15 which is due to be released on September 1st. Worked on it a few hours before having to stop and jump on this skype call at noon. Took us 3 hours to record our six episode but it's always a blast recording with Al and Meds (Simon).

After the recording I headed out to grab a bite to eat. Got home and watched an hour of TV before jumping back on the computer around 5pm and at about 6pm I was finally finished with my first pass for the next MASH podcast. I then took a break to clean up my pantry/laundry room. Got back to work and did my 2nd pass on the MASH podcast (that's when I add the audio clips from the episode). That took a few hours and around 8:00pm I finished with it and finally was ready to do my final "polish" pass and that took me another hour or so. So at 9pm I had finally finished editing my next MASH podcast. I leveled the audio, converted the file and uploaded it in a half hour. Podcast #2 is done, finished Confessions of a Fanboy #1 yesterday and MASH 4077 Podcast #15 today. But I still had one more to finish. I knew it was hopeless so my new plan was to string out all the interviews for my next Knights of the Guild CompanionCast S5E6. There were 14 interviews and over 2 hours of audio and at 11pm I finally finished the stringout. Still got alot of work to do on it and if I wasn't so tired I would try to start editing but I'd rather get some much needed rest. I have a few days before this podcast is due so I'll be working on it the next few nights after work.

It was a Podcast kind of weekend. Launched a new podcast, got another episode done for my MASH podcast and got started working on my new KOTG CompanionCast. Also recorded audio for my MASH podcast episodes 19 - 24. Cleaned a few rooms in my house and visited family and got the best news I could wish for.... all in all it was a pretty good weekend.
